The short answer

What you actually observe
- The outside of the cabinet is beaded with moisture — Condensation from humid air meeting a cold shell; not a leak at all in most cases.
- Water runs from the lid line when the lid is opened — Condensate collecting in the seal channel, which is usually a seal or a levelling problem.
- The floor is wet only after the unit has been switched off for a while — Everything frozen inside has thawed, and there was more water in the plate frost than anyone expected.
- Water is dripping while the unit is cold and untouched — NEAR MISS: worth checking the contents and any container inside before treating the cabinet as the source.

Causes, most likely first on the XS platform
- 1. Condensation from warm, humid air — This cause is seasonal: the same unit is dry in a cool dry room and wet in a humid one, with nothing having changed in between. Seals rank high on XS because the opening grows with each step of the roster while the gasket section stays the same, which puts the longest seal under the most work.
- 2. A cabinet on a slope — The drain sits at one point in the floor, and water only finds it if the cabinet is level. Second on XS, because the cause above it is found without tools and this one needs the cabinet empty first.
- 3. A blocked drain path — It is a two-minute check with the box empty, and it is the check most people skip because it is not where a leak is expected to be.
- 4. A gasket that has been crushed or nicked — A gasket stored clamped for months, or nicked by something in the way of the lid, will hold a line of contact everywhere but one place, and that one place is where the condensation runs.

When to call a technician
