On an Alpicool refrigerator in the NLS family, water appearing where it should not comes back most often to condensation on the cabinet exterior. The order below is this family's own, and it is not the order the brand-generic article sets out. Of the causes listed here, all but one are owner-checkable, and a cracked or displaced drain pan is the one worth ruling out immediately after the first.
What this looks like on a NLS unit
- The floor is wet only in humid weather — Condensation rather than plumbing, and it is fixed at the seal.
- Clean cold water at the back of the unit — Supply water arrives whether or not the unit has run.
- Water appears on a schedule rather than at random — Anything on a schedule is following the defrost cycle.
- Beads of water on the outside of the door — Warm room, cold surface, and no fault at all.
- Water arrives after the unit was moved — A pan off its seat or a fitting disturbed both date to the move.
- More than one NLS unit shows the same thing — With 3 builds under this key, the same behaviour across two of them points at the family rather than at one machine.
- NEAR MISS — a hiss or a gurgle with no water — Flow noise is normal and belongs on the noise page.
Causes, most likely first on the NLS family
- Condensation on the cabinet exterior — It is the first thing to rule out on these models. It wipes off and comes straight back, which is the test that identifies it.
- A cracked or displaced drain pan — It follows the lead on these models. Everything upstream works and the water simply misses the pan.
- A loose water supply connection — It comes after the two above it. The water is clean and cold and it arrives whether or not the unit has run, which is the signature.
- A cabinet liner or sealed-system fault — It ends the list. When every drain, seal, pan and line has been proved good, what is left is behind the liner.
- Body: The brand-generic article on this symptom opens on a blocked defrost drain. Here it does not: condensation on the cabinet exterior has moved above it, and a blocked defrost drain has moved down the list. What moved it is what this page's model table shows about how many builds sit under this key.
Check in this order, and why
- Wipe the outside of the door and watch what comes back — Water on the outside of a cold surface in a warm room is physics and not a fault.
- Ask whether the unit has been moved recently — A pan only has to slide a finger-width to stop catching.
- Feel the supply fitting for damp with a dry tissue — Clean cold water arriving whether or not the unit has run is supply water, not meltwater.
- Establish whether the water is coming from behind the liner — Nothing behind the liner is reachable from outside.
- Body: The NLS members share a layout, so this order holds across the ladder; what changes with size is how long each check takes, not which check comes first.
Safety first
Safety
Before a panel comes off, isolate the unit at the plug or at the breaker. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Fan blades stay sharp and stay able to turn after the power is cut. Keep the interlock intact and let the fan stop on its own before reaching past it. Anything on the sealed side belongs to a licensed technician. That line does not move because a fault is small or a part looks accessible.

When to call a technician
The line on these models is the point where a check needs a panel off or a tool you do not keep. Work down the checks above first; they cost minutes and they remove most of this list. Call once they have all come back clean, because what is left is a cabinet liner or sealed-system fault, and that is where the list stops being owner work. Two things end the owner-side list immediately: a burning smell, and oil anywhere outside the tubing. Both mean stop and call rather than continue.
