The short answer
For the Alpicool MK family, water appearing where it should not is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than anything deeper in the machine. Anyone who has already worked the brand-generic article can skip its opening: this family does not rank the causes the same way. The first checks below need no tools and no panel off, and they remove most of this list between them.
What you observe
- A trickle that never stops — A seeping valve does not pause between fills.
- Water arrives after the unit was moved — A pan off its seat or a fitting disturbed both date to the move.
- Beads of water on the outside of the door — Warm room, cold surface, and no fault at all.
- Water appears on a schedule rather than at random — Anything on a schedule is following the defrost cycle.
- Clean cold water at the back of the unit — Supply water arrives whether or not the unit has run.
- A MK unit of a different size behaves identically — That is what a shared build looks like: the members of this ladder differ in scale rather than in arrangement.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also warm — Warm and wet together is a cooling fault first; the water is a consequence.
Causes, most likely first on the MK family
- A blocked defrost drain — It is where this family starts. Meltwater that cannot reach the tray backs up and comes out at the lowest edge it can find.
- A cracked or displaced drain pan — Second on this family. It appears after a move, because a pan only has to slide off its seat to stop catching.
- A cabinet that is not sitting level — Third. It is corrected with the feet rather than with a part, which makes it worth checking early.
- A cabinet liner or sealed-system fault — Ranked last. Water tracking from inside the wall of the cabinet is not something an owner can reach.
- Body: This family keeps the brand-generic lead, but the order behind it is not the brand's. A cracked or displaced drain pan has moved up into second place, ahead of a door seal letting warm air in, and what moved it is how this family is laid out across the entries in its own table.
Check in this order, and why
- Look for standing water at the lowest inside edge — A drain that cannot take water leaves it where it was made.
- Reach under the back and check the pan is on its seat — Everything upstream can work perfectly while the water simply misses the pan.
- Check which corner is damp — Water goes to the low corner, so the damp patch is telling you where the tilt is.
- Decide whether every drain, seal, pan and line has been proved good — Water tracking inside the cabinet wall is what is left after all of them.
- Body: One order serves the whole MK ladder. The members differ in scale rather than in arrangement, so the sequence below does not need a per-model variant.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not tape or bridge the door switch to keep a fan running while you look. An interlock that is defeated is a blade that turns while a hand is in the cabinet. Anything on the sealed side belongs to a licensed technician. That line does not move because a fault is small or a part looks accessible.

When to call a technician
What separates the two halves of this list is access, not difficulty. Work down the checks above first; they cost minutes and they remove most of this list. Call once they have all come back clean, because what is left is a cabinet liner or sealed-system fault, and that is the one cause here with no owner-side check at all. Call straight away, without working down the list, if you smell burning or see oil outside the tubing at the back: oil outside the tubing means the system is open, and every hour it runs after that costs more to put right.
