Before you open anything
Almison dishwashers fail in the ordinary places dishwashers fail: the drain path first, the door and its seal second, heating and washing performance after that. Very little of it is exotic and most of it is serviceable with common parts. The one class worth acting on immediately rather than living with is anything electrical, because a wet appliance with a fault has a shorter tolerance than a dry one.
What the machine is doing
- Water left standing in the bottom — The single most common presentation. Read the will-not-drain page, which works the drain path from the filter outward.
- Plates coming out dirty, gritty or filmed — A washing-performance question, and usually spray arms and filters rather than anything that has broken.

When to stop and book someone
Two of the five classes are mostly owner work: drainage and washing performance both respond to cleaning that needs patience rather than skill. The door is a middle case, where cleaning and reseating a gasket is yours and hinge or spring work is not. Heating and anything electrical are service calls from the start, and an electrical symptom means switching off at the breaker rather than finishing the load. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, whoever does the work — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
