The short answer
Cycle faults on a Alliance machine are rarely random. On a commercial-duty machine, usually fed with hot water from the building supply rather than heating its own, the machine stops exactly where its conditions are not met, so the stage at which it stalls names the circuit to look at.
What you are actually seeing
- It stops early in the cycle with little water in the drum — A fill condition never satisfied: taps, pressure or inlet screens.
- It stops with a full drum — A drain condition never satisfied. Go to the filter and the drain hose.
- It tries to spin, slows, and tries again repeatedly — Unbalanced load redistribution. Usually normal, and usually a single heavy item.
- The cycle time stretches far beyond the estimate — On a heating machine, that is waiting for a temperature it cannot reach.
- It pauses with the door locked and nothing happening — The lock has not confirmed, or the control is waiting on a sensor.
- Not this fault: nothing at all when start is pressed — That is a no-start, and it has its own page and first checks.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- Drainage not completing — First: the commonest stall, and the one with the cheapest fix. The machine will not spin or advance on a full drum.
- Fill not completing — Second: closed taps, silted screens or low pressure. The machine waits, then gives up, and reports something vague.
- An unbalanced load — Third, and usually not a fault at all: a single heavy item makes the machine retry rather than spin, which reads as a stall.
- The door lock not confirming — Fourth: it holds the whole cycle, because nothing may proceed until the lock is reported closed.
- Heating not reaching temperature — Fifth: on machines that heat, the cycle stretches and then either abandons the target or stops.
- The level sensor or the control — Last: a machine that believes the wrong thing about water level behaves irrationally at several stages, and that is the pattern to report.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch one full failure and note the stage — Fill, wash, drain, spin. One observation removes most of the list.
- If it stalls full, go to the drainage checks — Filter, hose, standpipe. That is the likeliest single cause of a stalled cycle.
- If it stalls near-empty, check taps, screens and pressure — Especially after any plumbing work elsewhere in the building.
- Try a single large item on its own — It confirms or eliminates imbalance as the reason for repeated spin attempts.
- Only then treat it as a sensor or control fault — Those need a meter, and three cheaper causes sit above them.
What an owner can safely check
- Run a short cycle and stay with the machine — Note the stage, the sound and anything shown. This is the single most useful twenty minutes on this page.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening the filter or any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never force a locked door on a machine holding water, and never assume the water is cold. Drain through the machine's own filter or emergency hose with a tray ready. Leave the door interlock and its wiring exactly as you found them, and do not run a cycle with a panel removed to watch what happens.
When to call a technician
Call when the stage is identified and its cheap causes are eliminated — a stall at drain with a clean filter and clear hose, or a stall at fill with open taps and clean screens. Call sooner if the machine stops with the door locked and will not release it, if it trips a protective device at a particular stage, or if it behaves differently every time, which usually points at a level sensor or a control rather than at any single subsystem.
