The short answer
When an aftermarket ice maker or valve has been fitted and there is still no ice, the restriction is usually upstream of the new part: a kinked supply line, an overdue filter or a tap that is not fully open. The freezer running slightly warm is the other common answer. All of those are owner checks, and all of them defeat a brand-new module just as thoroughly as they defeated the old one.
What you observe
- A new module fitted and the bin still empty — Look upstream on the water path rather than at the part.
- Hollow or undersized cubes after the repair — The mould is filling partially. That is flow, not freeze.
- The dispenser gives water slowly as well — Confirms the restriction is on the supply, not the module.
- Frozen food is soft as well as no ice — The compartment is warm and the mould never reaches release.
- NEAR MISS — water running down the rear wall on each fill — That is an overflow and belongs on the leak page.
Causes, most likely first for a replaced part
- A restriction upstream that the repair never addressed — First, because it is the reason most module replacements disappoint. A kinked line behind the cabinet or a long-overdue filter starves a new module exactly as it starved the old one.
- The supply line pinched when the cabinet went back — Second, and often created by the repair itself: the unit is pulled out, worked on, and pushed back against the line.
- The freezer not cold enough to trigger a harvest — Third. The module only ejects once the mould reaches release temperature, so a warm compartment stops ice regardless of what was fitted.
- The replacement part is the wrong specification or faulty — Last. It happens, but a valve or module that is genuinely wrong usually shows as a slow fill rather than as nothing at all.
Check in this order, and why
- Test the water dispenser if the cabinet has one — Slow water proves the restriction is upstream, in seconds.
- Look behind the cabinet at the supply line — A pinch created during the repair is common and visible.
- Check the filter age and that the tap is fully open — Two free causes the repair may never have touched.
- Feel whether frozen food is properly hard — Left until here because a warm freezer is a larger job.
What an owner can safely check
- Fill a glass at the dispenser and judge the flow — A weak stream points straight at the supply path.
Tools: glassAbout 5 min
- Unplug and ease the cabinet out to inspect the line — Straighten any pinch and confirm the tap is fully open.
About 20 min
- Replace an overdue filter and flush the system — Run several litres through the dispenser afterwards.
About 20 min
- Confirm the ice maker is switched on and leave it a day — A new module needs several cycles before it is judged.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE if the valve or module wiring is involved — Take it back to whoever fitted the part.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing a panel or working behind the cabinet; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and connections disturbed during a recent repair may not be as you expect. Close the water shut-off before touching the filter head or any fitting. Never thaw a fill tube with a heat gun or free a mould with a screwdriver. Move the cabinet with help and dry the floor before restoring power.
When to call a technician
Call whoever fitted the part first, because a replacement that did not solve the fault means the diagnosis needs revisiting rather than the part being fitted again. Call any technician once the line is clear, the tap is open, the filter is current and the freezer is genuinely cold with still no fill. Call immediately if water runs down the rear wall each time the module tries to fill.

What this page does not cover
This page is about replacement components fitted into somebody else's cabinet, not about one manufacturer's appliance family. Where a page exists for the brand and model of the refrigerator itself, that page is the more specific answer for the machine. Deliberately absent: part identifiers, compatibility tables, valve flow ratings, fill volumes and harvest temperatures, all of which belong to the supplier's listing for your exact unit.
