Freezer defrost sensor error

Unplug the refrigerator and remove all items from the freezer to access the back panel
Remove the freezer rear panel (typically 6-8 screws and plastic clips) to expose the evaporator coils and defrost assembly
Locate the defrost sensor/bi-metal thermostat mounted on or near the evaporator — it is a small oval device with two wires
Test the defrost sensor for continuity with a multimeter: when cold (below 30 °F), it should show continuity (near 0 ohms). If open circuit when cold, replace it
Check the wiring from the defrost sensor back to the main board for any damaged or pinched wires, especially where the harness passes through the foam insulation
Pro Diagnostic Tip
Samsung uses a combination defrost sensor + thermal fuse on many models. If the thermal fuse is blown (open at any temperature), the 4E code appears even though the sensor itself is fine. Always test both components.
