Shorted oven sensor

Shorted sensor wiring can damage the ERC board over time. Replace promptly to avoid cascading failure to the more expensive control board.
Power off at breaker
Disconnect oven sensor connector at the back of the range
Measure sensor resistance — shorted sensor will read near 0 ohms or very low (<200 ohms)
Inspect sensor wire insulation for damage where it passes through oven cavity wall
Check for wire contact with metal oven frame causing a ground short
Replace sensor if element is shorted; repair wiring if insulation damage is the cause
Pro Diagnostic Tip
A shorted sensor causes the ERC to read a falsely high temperature, so the oven may refuse to heat or heat erratically. If resistance reads 0 ohms with sensor disconnected from wiring, the sensor element itself is shorted. If it reads normal when disconnected, the wiring has a short to ground.
