The short answer
On a Vinocave refrigerator the ranking below is the answer, and it is not the generic one. Most likely here — Condensation on and around the cabinet. Least likely, and a service call from the first minute — A cracked drain channel or liner. The checks at the top of the list cost nothing and need no panel off.
What you actually observe
- A puddle appearing under the front of the cabinet — Usually water that has run forward from inside rather than water from underneath.
- Water standing inside, under the crisper drawers — That is the signature of a drain that is no longer draining.
- Damp on the inside face of the door — Condensation at the seal line rather than a leak.
- NEAR MISS: water only when the ice maker fills — That is a fill-valve and supply story, and it belongs on a different page.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- Condensation on and around the cabinet — In a humid room a cold surface will collect water whether it is working correctly or not. Ranked first on a Vinocave: a wine cabinet is tuned for a narrow band well above a fridge's, so the room it stands in decides most of what it can hold.
- A blocked defrost drain — Water from every defrost has to leave through one small drain hole at the back of the compartment. Second here, because a glass door and a humid cabinet interior produce condensation as normal behaviour, and normal behaviour accounts for most complaints here.
- A leaking supply line or fitting — The plumbed connection is a compression or push fitting behind the unit, and it is disturbed whenever anything is moved. Third, once the two above are clean: it is free and it settles whether the cabinet is faulty or simply being read against the wrong expectation.
- A cracked drain channel or liner — The liner is moulded plastic with a drain channel formed into it, and a crack anywhere along that channel releases water inside the wall of the cabinet. Last, and the reason the order above matters: it is the rarest cause, and on a wine cabinet it is also the one that puts the whole collection at risk while it is diagnosed.
Check in this order, and why
- Feel whether the outside of the cabinet is wet as well — A wet shell means the room, not the unit.
- Find the drain hole at the back of the compartment and check it is clear — A blocked drain is the commonest cause and the cheapest to clear.
- Dry the floor behind the unit and put paper under the fitting overnight — A weep shows itself on paper long before it shows on a floor.
What an owner can safely check
- Check the room temperature against the band the cabinet is designed to hold — A wine cabinet targets a band well above a refrigerator's, so the room sets what it can achieve before any fault does.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired exactly as it is: it cuts power to the fan for a reason, and defeating it is never part of a diagnosis.
When to call a technician
Call when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level and the gasket seals and water is still arriving, or as soon as water appears to be coming from inside a wall of the cabinet. A plumbed fitting that keeps weeping after it has been re-made is also a call, because a slow leak behind an appliance does far more damage than a fast one in the open.
