The short answer
On a Vida refrigerator the ranking below is the answer, and it is not the generic one. Most likely here — A blocked defrost drain. Least likely, and a service call from the first minute — A cracked drain channel or liner. The checks at the top of the list cost nothing and need no panel off.
What you actually observe
- A puddle appearing under the front of the cabinet — Usually water that has run forward from inside rather than water from underneath.
- Water standing inside, under the crisper drawers — That is the signature of a drain that is no longer draining.
- Damp on the inside face of the door — Condensation at the seal line rather than a leak.
- NEAR MISS: water only when the ice maker fills — That is a fill-valve and supply story, and it belongs on a different page.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- A blocked defrost drain — Water from every defrost has to leave through one small drain hole at the back of the compartment. Ranked first on a Vida: a second fridge is asked to do a first fridge's job, and the load it is given is the first thing that does not match the cabinet.
- Warm air condensing at a poor gasket — A gasket that no longer seals lets warm room air meet cold cabinet air at the door. Second here, because a house-badge compact seals with a light gasket on a light door, and that door is opened by the whole household.
- The cabinet tilted forward — Cabinets are set very slightly back on purpose so that water inside runs to the drain and the doors swing shut. Third, once the two above are clean: it is free to check and it clears the most common false alarm on a second fridge.
- A cracked drain channel or liner — The liner is moulded plastic with a drain channel formed into it, and a crack anywhere along that channel releases water inside the wall of the cabinet. Last, and the reason the order above matters: it is the rarest and most expensive cause, and on a cabinet at this price it decides whether the unit is worth repairing at all.
Check in this order, and why
- Find the drain hole at the back of the compartment and check it is clear — A blocked drain is the commonest cause and the cheapest to clear.
- Look for water on the inside of the door rather than under the cabinet — Water at the door line is a seal story.
- Check that the cabinet sits very slightly back rather than forward — Water inside a cabinet goes wherever the cabinet lets it.
What an owner can safely check
- Give the cabinet a hand's width of clear air at the back and above it, then run it for a day — Compact cabinets are placed rather than installed, and clearance is the check that is skipped every time.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired exactly as it is: it cuts power to the fan for a reason, and defeating it is never part of a diagnosis.
When to call a technician
Call when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level and the gasket seals and water is still arriving, or as soon as water appears to be coming from inside a wall of the cabinet. A plumbed fitting that keeps weeping after it has been re-made is also a call, because a slow leak behind an appliance does far more damage than a fast one in the open.
