The short answer
On a Uberhaus freezer, a freezer that runs without holding temperature is usually losing the battle rather than broken: a lid or door that no longer seals, a condenser that cannot shed heat, or a room that has gone too warm for it. Check what it is fighting before you suspect what is inside it. A freezer bought through a home-improvement channel usually ends up in a garage or a basement, and where it stands decides most of what follows.
What you are actually seeing
- Packages at the top are thawing while the bottom is solid — Air is not circulating, which points at the air path rather than the compressor.
- The lid or door needs a push to close — It is propped open by frost or a dropped hinge, which is the fault itself.
- Frost is building much faster than it used to — Warm damp air is getting in from somewhere.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is silent and nothing is cold — That is power, a start relay or a control, and the first thing to check is the outlet.
Causes, most likely first on this freezer
- Where the freezer stands is now the problem — Ranked first on Uberhaus: freezers from this channel usually live in a garage or an outbuilding, and a garage in high summer asks more of a cabinet than a kitchen ever does. On this one, remember that it almost certainly lives in a garage or a basement, so where it stands is part of the fault.
- Interrupted power — a switched outlet, a tripped breaker or a loose plug — Second: garage and basement outlets are often switched, shared or protected, and a trip that resets itself leaves no evidence at all.
- Warm air walking in continuously past a seal that no longer touches — Third: frost on the sealing face props the lid open by a fraction, and that fraction is enough to keep the unit running continuously.
- Sealed-system or compressor fault — Last, and that is the point of the order: it is the least likely of these and the only one that is not an owner job, so everything above it is worth clearing first.
Check in this order, and why
- First — feel the room and look at the clearance behind, above and at the sides — A hot room or a blocked air path explains a cabinet that runs constantly without anything being broken.
- Then — check the outlet is not switched, shared or on a tripped protective device — This is the cheapest cause on the list and the easiest to overlook.
- Only then — feel whether the condenser is warm and listen for the compressor cycling — Only after the seal, the coil and the room have been dealt with, which is why it comes after everything above it.
What an owner can safely check
- Give the cabinet air and get it away from any heat source — Pull it clear of the wall, clear whatever is stacked on top or beside it, and check the grille is open.
About 15 min
- Clean the sealing faces and test the seal all the way round — Wipe frost and crumbs off both the gasket and the face it meets, then test with a strip of paper at top, bottom and both sides.
Tools: cloth, paperAbout 15 min
- STOP before testing anything electrical with the power on — The checks above are all cold checks. Anything that needs power applied is where an owner check ends.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the cabinet or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off, and let a capacitor discharge before you reach in. A freezer full of food is extremely heavy — empty it before you move it, and walk it rather than dragging it. Never chip frost off with a knife or a screwdriver: the evaporator tubing is soft, and a puncture turns a cheap fault into a scrapped cabinet.
When it stops being an owner job
Call once the seal, the coil, the clearance and the power have all been cleared and the cabinet still will not hold. Call sooner if the compressor buzzes and stops repeatedly, if there is oil visible around the tubing, or if the cabinet is warm at the sides and the coil is clean.

What this page does not cover
This page is written for the Uberhaus freezer as a class, not for one family or one model line. Where a family-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the more specific answer. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, torque figures and any measured value, all of which differ by family.
