The short answer
On a Travoca refrigerator, an ice maker that has stopped is a water problem far more often than it is an ice maker problem. Work from the tap towards the mould: supply, fill, freeze, harvest. A compact unit usually sits on a shelf, in a cabinet recess or under a counter with no clearance behind it, and that siting drives most of what goes wrong.
What you are actually seeing
- You hear the maker cycle but nothing arrives — Water is not reaching the mould, so the mechanism is working and the supply is not.
- Cubes are small, hollow or misshapen — The mould is filling partially, which is a restriction rather than a failure.
- NEAR MISS — the dispenser gives no water either — Then the fault is common to both and it is upstream: supply, filter or valve, not the ice maker.
Causes, most likely first on this refrigerator
- Freezer temperature above the point at which the mould will release — Ranked first on Travoca: a compact freezer section drifts warm easily, and an ice maker is the first function to stop when it does. On this one, remember that it is usually in a recess or under a counter, so clearance is part of the diagnosis.
- Fill tube frozen shut, so each fill freezes before it arrives — Second: a small freezer section runs its fill tube through the coldest air it has, so a slow fill freezes in the tube rather than in the mould.
- The ice maker has been switched off, by hand or by a bin that is jammed full — Third: it costs nothing to rule out, and a bail arm knocked up by a bag of frozen peas is the single commonest reason a working ice maker makes nothing.
- The ice maker mechanism itself — Last, and that is the point of the order: it is the part everybody replaces first and the part that is actually at fault least often, which is the whole reason for this order.
Check in this order, and why
- First — check whether ice cream in the freezer is firm or soft — Soft ice cream means the freezer is the fault and the ice maker is only the messenger.
- Then — look into the fill tube at the back of the ice maker for a plug of ice — Finding ice here tells you the original fault was upstream, which is why the supply and filter come first.
- Only then — only once supply, filter, fill tube and freezer temperature are all clean — Everything above it produces the same nothing-in-the-bin, and all of it is cheaper, which is why it comes after everything above it.
What an owner can safely check
- Judge the freezer by its contents before blaming the ice maker — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (-18 °C) or below. Soft contents mean you are on the wrong page and cooling failure is the one you want.
About 5 min
- Lower the bail arm and clear the sensor path — Move anything leaning against the arm or blocking the level sensor, then leave it a full day before judging.
About 5 min
- STOP at the first step that needs a meter on live terminals — That is where an owner check ends and a service visit begins, and nothing above this line needs one.
Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the ice maker off before you put a hand near the mould — a harvest cycle starts on a timer and the ejector moves without warning. Unplug the cabinet before removing any panel. Never clear a frozen fill tube with a heat gun, a hair dryer on high or a screwdriver: warm water on a cloth is the only safe way, and the plastic behind that tube melts long before ice does.
When it stops being an owner job
Call once supply, filter, fill tube and freezer temperature are all clean and the bin is still empty — at that point the fault is in the valve or the module and both need the panel off. Call sooner if water is arriving somewhere it should not, if the cabinet is also failing to hold temperature, or if the fill tube refreezes within a day of being cleared, which means the original restriction is still there.

This page is written for the Travoca refrigerator as a class, not for one family or one model line. Where a family-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the more specific answer. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, torque figures and any measured value, all of which differ by family.
