The short answer
What you are seeing on a Techomey dryer most often comes back to a child lock, a delay start or a control lock, with a latched control state behind it. Work the order below rather than the price list: the cheap causes here are also the common ones.
What you are seeing
- It hums but the drum does not turn — Power and control are fine and the drive is not.
- It starts only if you hold the button in — A start switch or a door switch not holding the circuit.
- NEAR MISS: it starts and stops after minutes — A cycle fault rather than a start fault.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- A child lock, a delay start or a control lock — The machine is doing exactly what it was told, and the instruction was set by accident. First on Techomey because a board decides the behaviour rather than a switch, so a control fault reads as a machine declining to act.
- A latched control state — A control that stopped mid-cycle can sit waiting rather than restart, and it reads as completely dead. Second, because this generation puts the logic in a board, so the control outranks the mechanical causes that lead on older units.
- No power, or only half of it — An electric dryer takes both halves of its supply. Lose one and it can hum, light or do nothing at all. Third, once the two above are clean: the cord, the switch and the terminals are built to the lowest cost, so the supply side stays in play.
- A failed start switch, door switch or thermal fuse — On many dryers a blown thermal fuse kills the whole machine rather than just the heat. Bottom of the list on purpose: the element and its safety devices are commodity parts on this build.
Check in this order, and why
- Look at the panel for a lock or delay indicator — Free to check and genuinely common.
- Isolate at the breaker for a few minutes and try again — A reset separates a latched state from a failed board.
- Switch the dryer breaker fully off and back on — A large appliance circuit is typically 30 A or higher and can trip on one side only.

- Clear any control lock and cancel a delay start, then try the shortest cycle — Check the panel legend for the hold sequence.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer or switch it off at its breaker before removing any panel, and shut the gas cock on a gas dryer. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Clear the lint filter every load: lint is the fuel in a dryer fire and the vent is where it collects. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility or 911 from outside, without switching anything on or off.
When this stops being a do-it-yourself job
Call when power is confirmed at both halves of the breaker, the door catch is clean and aligned, no lock is set and the machine still does nothing. Call immediately and stop resetting if the breaker trips on demand. Mention the vent: on many dryers a blown thermal fuse from a blocked vent kills the whole machine, not just the heat.
