The short answer

Causes, most likely first on TECCPO
- The hookup a compact or portable makes — A compact machine is often connected to a tap adapter and drained over a sink rather than plumbed in, and that arrangement is made and unmade regularly. The joint that moves is the joint that leaks or starves the machine of water. - Second: Dry the fittings and look at them under pressure — It is second because these joints are under pressure permanently and because a failure here does the most damage.
- Third: Pull the dispenser drawer right out and look at it — Third in the order because the drawer comes out by hand and the evidence is immediate.
- Fourth: Watch the standpipe during the drain step — It comes last because the timing identifies it and the fix takes seconds.
What an owner can safely check
- Re-make the water and drain hookup and watch a fill — Take the adapter off and re-seat it, check the drain hose is secured rather than balanced, then start a cycle and watch the first fill.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close both taps before undoing a hose, and put a tray and a towel down before opening a filter — what comes out is hot on some cycles. Never defeat the door lock to open a machine mid-cycle: that lock is holding a drum full of water.
Where owner work ends
Stop at the first step needing a meter on live terminals, and call from there. Anything that needs the cabinet off, a meter on live terminals, or the drum assembly disturbed is a service call rather than an afternoon. Call promptly if the leak is on the pressure side, because water under a floor does more damage in a week than the repair costs.
