The short answer
Start from a delay start, a child lock or a demo mode: on a Sunvivi dishwasher that is the likeliest explanation for what you are looking at, and a failed door switch, thermal fuse or control board is the least likely. Most of this you can settle before anyone is called.
What the symptom looks like
- The panel lights but the cycle never begins — Power is fine. The machine is refusing, usually over the door or a delay setting.
- It beeps or flashes and stops — The control is reporting something rather than failing. Read what it is telling you.
- NEAR MISS: it runs but holds water — Drainage, not starting.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- A delay start, a child lock or a demo mode — The machine is doing exactly what it was told and the instruction was set by accident. First here, for a reason specific to Sunvivi: a board decides the behaviour rather than a switch, so a control fault reads as a machine declining to act.
- A latched control state — A control that stopped mid-cycle can sit waiting rather than restart, and it looks completely dead from outside. Second, because this generation puts the logic in a board, so the control outranks the mechanical causes that lead on older units.
- A failed door switch, thermal fuse or control board — The door is closed and the machine still does not see it, or the board has lost its supply internally. Third on this build, because the control decides what the machine does, so a control fault looks like a machine that has simply stopped caring.
- The door not latching — The latch closes a switch as well as the door. A hair out of line and the machine never sees a closed door. Bottom of the list on purpose: the door is a moving, sealing and often switching part at once, so it carries more of the fault load than it looks like it should.
Check in this order, and why
- Look for a delay, lock or demo indicator on the panel — Free to check and genuinely common.
- Switch the machine off at the breaker for a few minutes and back on — A reset separates a latched state from a failed board.
- Once power, door, lock and supply are clean, what is left is a part — That is a meter job.
What an owner can safely check
- Cancel any delay start, clear the child lock and hold the cancel or drain button to reset — Every machine has its own hold sequence, so check the panel legend.
About 10 min
- Isolate at the breaker for a few minutes, restore power and try a short cycle — If it runs once and then refuses again, the underlying fault is still there.
About 15 min
- Close the door firmly and listen for the latch, then check nothing on the top rack is holding it off — A single tall item is enough to stop the latch engaging.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE: testing a door switch or a thermal fuse means a meter on live terminals — A service call, not an owner check.
Safety first, and it is not a formality
Safety
Switch the machine off at its breaker or unplug it before removing the kick plate or any panel, and shut the supply off at the stop tap. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never defeat the door latch to watch a cycle run: it holds hot water and a spray arm behind it. Water and a live terminal in the same cabinet is the one combination worth being careful about.
When to call a technician
Call when power is confirmed at the socket, the door latches properly, no lock or delay is set and the machine still does nothing. Call immediately and stop using it if the breaker trips as soon as you reset it: a circuit that trips on demand is reporting a fault, not being awkward.
