The short answer
A washer that will not start is usually waiting for a condition rather than broken: a door it cannot lock, a tap that is closed, or a lock that is set. On this machine the first suspect is socket, plug or breaker. Everything below is checkable without opening anything.
What you observe
- The panel is completely dark — No power reaching the machine: the socket, the plug or the breaker.
- The panel lights but start does nothing — The machine has power and is declining to begin.
- You hear the door lock click and then nothing — It locked and then stopped, which points at the fill.
- NEAR MISS — it starts but leaves the drum full at the end — That is drainage, and the machine started perfectly well.
Causes, most likely first on a Simzlife washer
- Socket, plug or breaker — A GFCI tripped by something else on the circuit leaves the washer dead with no clue at all. Ranked first on a Simzlife washer: it is outside the appliance and takes a minute to prove or exclude.
- Door or lid not locking — Washing caught in the seal holds the door a few millimetres proud, which is enough to prevent the lock.
- Control lock, delayed start or a programme not confirmed — A long press sets a child lock on most machines, and the indicator is easy to miss.
- Taps closed, or a blocked inlet screen — The inlet screens silt up over years, which starves the fill without anything failing.
Check in this order, and why
- Plug something else into the socket and check the breaker — Look for a tripped GFCI on the laundry circuit.
- Close the door firmly and listen for the lock to click — Check nothing is caught in the seal, and that the drum is not packed to the door.
- Look for a lock or delay indicator, then cancel and reselect the programme — A long press on the lock key clears most of them.
What an owner can safely check
- Plug the machine into a socket you have proved live, with no extension lead, and reset any GFCI — A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V, and a washer should not share one with much.
About 10 min
- Take out enough washing to clear the door, check the seal is empty, and close the door firmly until the lock clicks — A machine that starts once the drum is lighter was being held by the door rather than a fault.
About 10 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the machine at the wall and shut both taps before any filter cap comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is down. The filter holds several litres, so a tray and towels go down first. The door lock and the lid switch are safety devices and are never bypassed, and a door on a drum full of water is never forced. Drain the machine before you move it: it is far heavier full than empty.
When to call a technician
Call once the power, the door, the taps and the control lock are all proved and the machine still refuses, because what is left is the lock switch, the wiring or the board, all behind a panel. Generic internals cut both ways: no brand support, but an independent technician can usually match the part from a catalogue rather than from the manufacturer.

What this page does not cover
This is the generalised Simzlife washer page. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked above and is the more precise answer for your unit. Left out on purpose: part numbers, connector colours, the order panels come off in, and every torque figure — a generalised page cannot be right about any of them.
