The short answer
A Silhouette Select refrigerator that runs without getting cold has usually lost airflow, not its compressor. The cause that ranks first here is cabinet not level, or clearances too tight, and the sealed system ranks last because it fails far less often than owners expect.
What you observe
- The cabinet is warm but the unit is plainly running — The signature of lost airflow rather than lost cooling.

- A solid sheet of frost on the freezer's back wall — Not the usual dusting; that sheet is what the air cannot get through.

Before you open anything
Safety
Disconnect power at the plug or the breaker before opening anything, and give a capacitor time to bleed down before you reach past a board. Nothing sharp goes near an iced evaporator: thin tubing, refrigerant under pressure, no home repair. Refrigerant work is licensed work, so the sealed system is where the owner job ends. Empty the cabinet before you move it.
When to call a technician
Call once the checks above are clean, because what is left sits behind a panel or on the refrigerant side, and refrigerant work is licensed work. Call immediately, without finishing the list, if you smell burning or see oil around the compressor: oil outside the tubing means the system is open. On an entry compact unit, weigh the cost of a sealed-system repair against a replacement; anything outside the sealed system is generally worth fixing.
