The answer first
Warm air in a cabinet that is plainly running is a delivery problem before it is a production problem. On this machine the first thing to look at is door seal leaking, or a door not closing.
What you observe
- The cabinet is warm but the unit is plainly running — The signature of lost airflow rather than lost cooling.
- The freezer side is cold and the fresh-food side is not — Cold is being made and not delivered — an air path, a damper or a fan.
- A solid sheet of frost on the freezer's back wall — Not the usual dusting; that sheet is what the air cannot get through.
- NEAR MISS — the unit is silent and nothing is cold — That is a power or start-relay fault and a different page. If you hear nothing at all, go there.
Causes, most likely first on a Silhouette Professional refrigerator
- Door seal leaking, or a door not closing — A hardened gasket, or a door held open by a shelf, lets warm room air in continuously. Ranked first on a Silhouette Professional refrigerator: warm air entering continuously defeats any amount of cooling.
- The room, the load or the clearance around the cabinet — A cabinet in a hot garage, jammed to a wall, or packed solid reads as faulty while working as designed.
- Evaporator fan not moving air — The fan behind the freezer rear panel pushes the cold air the rest of the cabinet lives on.
- Defrost cycle stalled, evaporator iced over — An adaptive defrost cycle that stops running leaves a solid block of frost where the airflow should be.
Check in this order, and why
- Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull it out, right round both doors — Anywhere the paper slides free is a leak you can feel.
- Check the gap at the back and sides, and how warm the room is — Look inside too: a cabinet packed solid cannot circulate air.
- Open the freezer and listen for the fan, holding the door switch in — It separates the two likeliest causes before any tool comes out.
What an owner can safely check
- Test the seal with paper at several points on each door, then wash the gasket with warm soapy water — Paper that pulls out with no drag marks a leak; a gasket stiff with grease often seals again once clean.
Tools: sheet of paper, clothAbout 15 min
- Pull the cabinet out from the wall and unpack the shelves enough for air to move — A cabinet that cools properly once it can breathe was never faulty.
About 15 min
- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired as you found it. Never take a knife, a screwdriver or a heat gun to frost on an evaporator: the tubing behind it is thin, pressurised, and a puncture ends the appliance. Empty a loaded cabinet before you move it.
When to call a technician
Call once the checks above are clean, because what is left sits behind a panel or on the refrigerant side, and refrigerant work is licensed work. Call immediately, without finishing the list, if you smell burning or see oil around the compressor: oil outside the tubing means the system is open. Door gaskets, hinges and lighting on the Professional units are serviceable parts, so price the door repair before you assume the cooling system is at fault.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the Silhouette Professional refrigerator as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the better answer — read it first. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, panel removal order and torque figures, all of which differ between families under one nameplate.
