Is it the seal?#
Boot seal mould is the single most common Samsung front-loader complaint, and the honest test is whether it comes off. Growth in the folds that will not clean away means the rubber has gone permanently porous, and no amount of scrubbing brings it back. The same goes for a foul smell that survives your regular cleaning cycles — the source is mould embedded in the rubber, not residue on it.
The other pointers are mechanical. Water escaping the door area mid-cycle usually means the seal has torn at the bottom, where objects collect. Socks and small items appearing between the boot and the outer tub say the same thing. A door that no longer closes smoothly means the seal has shifted or swollen into the closure path.

Why Samsung boots die early#
Two causes stand out, and only one of them is about the rubber.

The replacement#
Tools: a flathead screwdriver, spring clamp pliers if you can get them, work gloves — the wire spring clamp can snap and cut your hand — and mild soap with clean cloths.
Unplug the washer and open the door. The boot is the large rubber ring around the opening, held by an outer wire spring clamp at the front and an inner band clamp at the tub. Find the spring end on the outer clamp and pry it off with the flathead or the pliers, then peel the front lip of the boot off the front panel flange. Note the orientation marking before it lets go.
Reach behind the seal for the inner band clamp, release it, and pull the old boot off the outer tub lip. Now clean the front panel flange and the tub lip properly — residue and mould left there stop the new seal seating.
Fit the new boot to the outer tub lip first, and this is the step to slow down for: line the marked drain holes up with the bottom centre. Secure the inner band clamp, fold the front of the seal over the front panel flange, and reattach the outer wire spring clamp. Run a short cycle and watch the whole seal perimeter for leaks.
Stop and call someone if the tub lip is corroded or damaged — a new seal will not seat on a bad lip — or if the spring clamp will not go back without the right pliers. Signs of melting or burning mean stop entirely.
What you get out of it#
A Samsung boot seal runs 5-10 years in normal residential use. Left torn, it puts water on the floor every cycle and spreads mould spores into the laundry until it is replaced, so this is not a repair that rewards waiting.
