The short answer
Water around a NewAge refrigerator is usually humid air pulled past a tired gasket and condensing inside, and it is almost never a hole in anything. The single most useful thing you can do is establish whether the water starts inside the cabinet or outside it, because that one observation splits the list below in half. These end up under a covered patio bar where the air is humid, the doors are opened constantly during a gathering, and the cabinet is rarely cleaned behind.
What you observe
- Water on the floor at the front, usually in the morning — A puddle that returns after you wipe it is the pattern that matters.
- Water standing under the crisper or in the bottom of the cabinet — Inside water and outside water have different causes — note which you have.
- The outside of the cabinet is beaded with water — A cold skin in humid air sweats; that water reaches the floor and is easily mistaken for a leak.
- Ice forming in the bottom of the compartment instead of draining — The drain is blocked and the water freezes where it stands.
- NEAR MISS — water only after a power cut — That is thawed food and melted ice draining, which is expected and clears itself once the cabinet is cold again.
Causes, most likely first on this platform

Check in this order, and why
- First: dry the gasket, shut the door for an hour, then feel it again — A gasket that is wet again is telling you where the humid air is getting in, which is the top-ranked cause here. Under a patio bar the humidity does the damage, so start where the moist air gets in.
- Second: dry the outside completely and watch where water appears next — It separates sweating from leaking in one observation, which changes the remedy entirely.
- Third: look for standing water or ice in the bottom of the compartment — It tests the top-ranked cause without tools: water that sits inside is water that is not reaching the drain.
What an owner can safely check
- Inspect the gasket along its whole length — Wash it, dry it and look for a section that stays flat when the door shuts. A gasket that is wet on the inside is telling you where the humid air is getting in.

Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired exactly as it is: it cuts power to the internal fan when the door opens, and defeating it puts a moving blade under your hand. Never chip ice off an evaporator or a cold plate with a knife, a screwdriver or any other tool — the tubing behind it is thin-walled, and a punctured line ends the appliance on the spot.
When to call a technician
Call if the water returns after the drain is clear and the cabinet is level, if you find water at the back near the compressor compartment, or if the drain tube has been damaged. Call immediately, before wiping anything, if water is reaching an outlet or a power lead.
