The short answer
On a LiYingCo refrigerator an empty ice bin is usually a water-supply or a temperature problem rather than a failed ice maker. The first two checks below take minutes and need nothing but your eyes and a glass. Replacing the ice maker is the last resort on this list, not the first move.
What the fault looks like
- The dispenser gives water but no ice, or neither — Water at the dispenser proves the supply reaches the appliance, which eliminates half the list in one go.
- The bin is empty and stays empty — No cubes at all after a full day, with the unit otherwise running normally.
- NEAR MISS — there is water under the unit as well as no ice — A leak with an ice fault usually means the supply line or the fill valve, and the water-leak page covers that path in detail.
Causes in likelihood order
- The freezer is not cold enough to complete a cycle — An ice maker will not harvest until the mould reaches its release temperature. A freezer sitting a few degrees warm — because the door is opened constantly, the cabinet is overfull, or the seal is tired — makes ice slowly or not at all while the food inside still looks frozen. Top of the list on this one: the way this unit gets used keeps its door open far more than a household unit, and ice is the first thing to suffer from that. LiYingCo units run a small electronic control rather than a mechanical thermostat, so a wrong reading from a sensor looks exactly like a cooling fault from the outside.
- The ice maker is switched off or the arm is held up — Every ice maker has an off position — a wire arm, a lever, or a setting on the control. Loaded groceries push that arm up, a child presses the wrong button, and the unit obediently stops making ice with nothing whatsoever wrong. Second on this brand: it takes a moment to rule out and it saves a service call more often than anyone admits.
- The water supply to the appliance — A shut-off valve left part-closed, a kinked line behind the unit, or a connection that was never opened after an installation will starve the ice maker without any other symptom. The unit keeps trying to fill and keeps getting nothing. Third: it is easy to eliminate and worth doing before anything is taken apart.
- A clogged or overdue water filter — A filter at the end of its life drops the flow to a trickle. The ice maker fills partly, freezes what it has, and produces small hollow cubes or nothing at all — while the dispenser slows at the same time, which is the tell. Check in this order, and why
- Check whether the freezer is at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and an ice maker needs roughly that to complete a harvest. Warmer than that and the ice is a symptom, not the fault.
- Look at the ice maker's own switch, arm or control setting — The arm should hang down freely; a setting that reads off, holiday or vacation stops ice production by design.
- Trace the water line from the wall valve to the back of the unit — Look for a valve that is not fully open and for a kink where the line is pinched against the wall — both are common after a unit has been pulled out and pushed back.
Steps you can take safely
- Clear the freezer vents, check the door seal and let the cabinet recover — Give it a full day at a lower setting before deciding the ice maker is at fault.

- Switch the ice maker back on and clear anything holding the arm up — Give it several hours. A first batch after a restart is normal to discard.

- STOP before pulling the ice maker assembly out — Removing it means disconnecting a harness and often working around a fill tube that has frozen. That is where the owner check ends.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Turn the water off at the wall valve before disturbing any connection, and never thaw a frozen fill tube with a flame or a heat gun; warm water and patience do it without melting the plastic around it.
When this becomes a service call
The owner's part ends at the fill tube. If the supply is open, the filter is new, the freezer is cold and the arm is down, the remaining causes all sit behind a panel with a live harness and a water connection side by side, which is a technician's job.
