In short
A LinsAir that will not start is nearly always waiting for something: a door it can lock, water at both taps, or a delay or lock setting to be cleared. The ranking below is ordered for this brand, and the top two checks settle most of these calls without anything being opened.
What you are seeing
- You hear a click or a hum but the drum never moves and no water arrives — It is trying to fill. That puts the fault at the taps, the hoses or the inlet valves.
- No lights, no display, no response to any button — A completely dead machine, which points at the supply rather than at anything inside it.
- NEAR MISS — it starts, runs and then stops part way through — That is a cycle fault rather than a start fault, and the page on cycles that do not finish ranks those causes properly.
The ranking that matters
- The supply at the wall — power and water — A washer needs a live socket and two open taps. A tripped breaker, a socket on the same circuit as something that trips it, a plug worked loose behind the machine, or a tap turned off during a previous repair all produce a machine that is either dead or will not fill. First on this brand: this machine is connected temporarily rather than plumbed in, and the connection is the part that fails long before anything inside the cabinet does. LinsAir machines are portable units connected to a faucet adapter and drained into a sink, so the temporary connection is part of the appliance and fails more often than anything inside it.
- An overload the machine has protected itself from — Motors and pumps have thermal protection. After a heavy load, a jammed pump, or a run of cycles back to back with no pause, a machine will simply refuse to begin until it has cooled — and it usually does so without any message. Second on this brand: it explains the machines that refuse now and behave perfectly tomorrow.
- A blocked filter or a jammed pump the machine has noticed — Many machines check the drain before they will fill. Standing water in the drum, a filter packed with lint and coins, or a pump the machine cannot turn will stop a cycle before it starts, and on some models that shows only as a refusal. Third: it explains the cases where the drum is not empty, which are the minority here.
- The door or lid will not lock — No washer will run until it knows the door is shut and locked. A latch that has dropped, a strike worn round, a door that no longer closes square, or a lid switch that has failed leaves the machine ready and waiting for a signal that never comes. Fourth in order: it explains fewer of these here but it is still quick to test by ear.
Check in this order, and why
- Test the socket with something else, and check both taps are fully open — A lamp or a phone charger in the same socket answers the power question in seconds, and a tap that is only part open starves the fill without any other sign.
- Ask whether it has run hard, or jammed, in the last hour — A machine that refuses immediately after a heavy run and starts normally later has told you it was a thermal cutout, not a failure.
- Look for standing water in the drum before anything else — Water left from the last cycle means the machine is refusing because it cannot drain, and the drainage page is the one to follow.
What you can do yourself
- Check the breaker, the plug and both taps — Pull the machine out far enough to see the plug and the tap handles rather than reaching blind behind it.
Tools: torchAbout 15 min
- Leave it switched off for an hour, then try the shortest programme — Empty the drum first, and check nothing is jammed in the pump filter before restarting.
About 60 min
- STOP before removing a panel or testing a lock with a meter — A washer's control sits next to live terminals and a capacitor. Naming the likely cause is the useful end of an owner check.
The part that is not optional
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut both taps before disconnecting a hose, and expect water in the machine even when the drum looks empty: a drain filter opened without a tray under it empties onto the floor.
When this becomes a service call
The line is the back panel. Everything at the wall, the door and the panel is an owner check; a lock replacement, a control board or a motor is not. A machine that trips a breaker should be left unplugged until it is looked at.

Generalized information. This page covers LinsAir washers as a class rather than one family or model line; where a family-specific page exists it is the better answer and is linked above.
