The symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- It beeps or flashes and then stops — The machine has checked something, found it wrong and stopped. Door and water are the usual two.

- A door catch that clicks but does not engage — Every dishwasher has a switch in the latch that must be made before anything will run. - Check the racks are pushed fully in and nothing is proud of the door line — A handle or a tall item catching the door is the usual reason a latch will not reach. First: the answer here changes everything you do next.
- Check the isolating switch above the worktop and the socket in the adjacent cupboard — Both are switched by accident more often than any component fails. Next, because it takes the same few minutes and covers the other likely half.
- Select a cycle and confirm that start is actually pressed and held where required — Some panels need the start button held, and a short press simply arms the cycle. Third, and only if the two above found nothing.
What to do, step by step
- Clean the latch and the strike plate, then check the door closes squarely — Never defeat or tape the latch to make it run: that switch is there to stop the machine spraying with the door open.

When to hand it over
