The answer, before the detail
Expect the duct behind the machine crushed against the wall first. Owners reach for the heating element, but on a machine of this kind the element is well down the list — and fitting one into a blocked vent simply destroys the new part too.
The symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- It heats at first and then goes cold partway through — A safety thermostat is opening as the machine overheats, which is airflow again rather than an element.
- A smell of hot lint during the cycle — Stop the machine. Hot lint is how dryer fires start, and the duct needs clearing before it runs again.
- The laundry room feels humid after a cycle — Moist air is escaping into the room instead of going outside, so the duct is disconnected or leaking.
- NEAR MISS — the drum does not turn at all — A machine that will not tumble is a no-start fault, and a different page covers the belt, the door switch and the motor.
Causes, most likely first on a Klasse Unique dryer
- The duct behind the machine crushed against the wall — Flexible foil duct crushed behind a machine that was pushed back too far is the most common physical version of this, and it happens the day the machine is moved rather than gradually. Top of the list, because everything below it is harder to check and less likely to be the answer. The platform behind a smaller badge is usually a common contract build, so the causes that lead here are the generic ones that class is known for.
- A one-shot safety device that has done its job — It ranks here because it explains the symptom completely, and because it is the bridge between the free airflow checks above it and the parts below it. It follows the first because the two produce the same complaint, and this one is the cheaper of the pair to eliminate.
- A screen that looks clean but is sealed with fabric-softener film — The lint screen is the first restriction in the air path and the only one the machine expects the owner to clear. A screen that is full cuts airflow immediately, and a screen coated in the invisible film left by dryer sheets restricts it even when it looks clean. It ranks here because it is genuinely less common, not because it matters less when it happens.
- Heating element or gas igniter failed — A failed element is a genuine parts job, and it is a reasonable conclusion once the air path is proven clear — but only then, because a restricted duct shortens the life of every element that follows. Last, and deliberately so — it should be where a diagnosis ends rather than where it starts.
What to check first, second, third
- Go outside while the dryer runs and put a hand at the vent flap — Strong warm air means the duct is clear; a weak trickle or a closed flap is the fault. First: the answer here changes everything you do next.
- Ask whether the heat stopped suddenly rather than fading over weeks — A device that opens does so in one moment; a duct blocks gradually. The history separates them. Second, once the first check is clean.
- Take the lint screen out and hold it up to the light, then run water on it — Water that beads or sits on the mesh rather than running straight through means a softener film is sealing it. Only worth doing once the two above are ruled out.
What you can do yourself
- Clear the outside vent flap and check it opens freely when the machine runs — Lint, nests and paint all hold these shut, and the machine cannot tell you which.
Tools: gloves, brushAbout 30 min
- Note when the heat stopped and what the load was — An overloaded machine on a long run of duct is the usual history behind an opened fuse.
About 10 min
- Vacuum the filter housing as deep as the nozzle will reach — Power off first, and take the hose right down into the slot rather than skimming the top.

- STOP before testing anything electrical with the power on — The checks above are all done cold. A test that needs power applied is a technician test, whatever a video shows.

Safety
Before anything is opened, switch the breaker off and let the machine cool: the drum, the duct and the cabinet all hold heat for a long time after a cycle. Wear a glove when clearing lint from a hot air path.
When this becomes a service call
This becomes a service call at the thermal fuse and the element, because both mean the back or the front panel off and a meter on terminals. Everything above them is airflow work, and it is both the likelier fix and the one that reduces fire risk.
