The short answer
A compact Kalamera freezer that runs and still reads warm is usually being asked for more than it can give: a warm room, a door opened often, or a load put in unfrozen. These cabinets have little in reserve. Check the placement and the door before assuming the cabinet has failed. Because these hold their contents for weeks rather than days, a small error shows up as a slow drift rather than an obvious fault.
What you observe
- Heavy frost on one surface, none elsewhere — Air is leaking in at that point and freezing where it lands.
- It never cycles off — Running continuously without satisfying is the same fault seen from the other side.

Causes, most likely first on a Kalamera freezer
- Door not sealing or not latching — Id: doorseal — A freezer door is heavy, and a hardened gasket or a drawer left proud will hold it a hair open. Warm humid air then pours in continuously. Second on a compact cabinet, where a short thin gasket on a light door deforms easily. It moves up a place here because long storage hides a slow drift: nothing looks wrong until the contents say otherwise.
- Room heat and load beyond its capacity — Id: ambient — Second: every freezer is rated for a room-temperature range and only so much unfrozen food at once. A hot garage or a full load put in warm produces exactly this. First on a compact cabinet: it has no reserve, so the room it stands in decides whether it holds temperature.
- Condenser cannot shed its heat — Id: condenser — Third: the coil at the back or underneath dumps the heat pulled out of the box. Furred with dust, or pushed against a wall, it cannot, and the cabinet drifts warm.
- Sealed system or compressor — Id: sealed — Last, and the reason the order matters: a leak, a blockage or a compressor that no longer pumps gives a cabinet that runs and never freezes. It is the least likely cause here and the only one that is not an owner repair.
Check in this order, and why
- Close the door on a strip of paper and pull — It should drag all the way round, corners included. First because it is the top-ranked cause above and costs nothing.
- Look at the room temperature and what went in warm — Placement and load explain most of these before anything internal does. Second because its cause ranks second above.
- Feel the condenser and check the clearance behind — Warm and clean is right; furred or boxed in is the finding. Third because its cause ranks third above.

- Check the door all round with a strip of paper — Where the paper slides free is where the warm air is getting in.

Unplug the cabinet or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Attempt nothing on the sealed system; it is under pressure and the work is licensed. Move food to a cooler before a test defrost, and get help before moving a loaded cabinet: a full freezer is heavier than it looks.
When to call a technician
Call when the door, the coil, the clearance and the setting are all proven good and the cabinet still will not hold temperature. Call immediately if you see oil at the compressor or smell burning — oil outside the pipework means the system is open, and running it longer makes the repair worse. Parts come through the seller, and the door gasket, the fan and the control board are the items normally offered.
