The short answer
Small Joy Pebble cabinets are noisier than their size suggests because the compressor is bolted to a thin box with nothing to damp it. Buzz and vibration usually come from the feet and what the cabinet is standing on, not from a failing part. Gurgle and the occasional pop are normal. Because these usually stand in a tight spot, the space around the unit is worth checking before anything inside it.
What you observe
- A warble or chirp that stops when the freezer door opens — Door-switch behaviour identifies the evaporator fan almost on its own.
- A rattle or clatter from the back or underneath — That is the condenser fan or something loose near it.
- NEAR MISS — no noise, no cold — A silent cabinet that is warm belongs on the page for a unit that will not start.
Causes, most likely first on a Joy Pebble refrigerator
- Cabinet not level, or touching something — Id: level — A cabinet on uneven feet, or in contact with a wall or a run of units, passes compressor vibration into the structure and amplifies it. First here because a light cabinet on a hard floor is a sounding board for its own compressor. It moves up a place here because these units are installed where space is short, and short space is exactly what this fault needs.

- Refrigerant and defrost noises, which are normal — Id: normalflow — Last, and the reason the order matters: gurgling, trickling and the occasional pop or sizzle are refrigerant moving and defrost water hitting a warm surface. Nothing is wrong.
Check in this order, and why
- Rock the cabinet and check its feet and clearances — Any movement, or any contact with a wall or unit, is the finding. First because it is the top-ranked cause above and costs nothing.
- Touch each rack and bottle while the noise is happening — If it changes as you touch it, you have found it. Second because its cause ranks second above.
- Put a hand on the compressor housing as it runs — A knock you can feel is mounting; a hum you can only hear is normal. Third because its cause ranks third above.

- Name the sound and when it happens — Continuous, cyclic, or only at start-up — this alone narrows it to one or two causes.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before reaching behind any panel or near a fan — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a fan can start without warning. Never hold a blade to stop it. Leave the door switch alone; it is what makes the fan test meaningful. Get help before moving a tall cabinet.
When to call a technician
Call when the noise is mechanical and constant after the cabinet has been levelled, cleared and cleaned — a worn fan bearing or a compressor mount is a parts job rather than an adjustment. Call sooner if the noise arrived with a loss of cooling, because then it is a symptom rather than a nuisance. Parts come through the seller, and on a cabinet this size the cost of a sealed-system repair is normally more than the cabinet.
