The short answer
Water on the floor around the machine: on an Insignia washer that is usually a weeping hose or coupling, not a failed tub seal. The next thing to rule out is a drain hose out of its outlet. Work the order below -- cheap causes first, the one that is not an owner fix last.
What you are looking at
- The floor is wet with the machine idle — Water collects with nothing running.
- There is a tidemark in the door fold — Debris and a line of grime at one spot in the boot.
- Water appears at the front during the wash — It arrives at the door rather than behind the machine.
- NEAR MISS -- damp only in humid weather — Cold pipes sweat; check whether the wet surface is a pipe rather than the machine.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- A fill hose or coupling is weeping — Rubber washers harden, couplings loosen with vibration, and a faucet adapter under pressure seeps steadily. Ranked first on an Insignia unit -- mainstream mechanics, cost taken out of the electronics: these connections are under mains pressure whenever the taps are open, so they leak whether the machine runs or not.
- The drain hose is loose at its outlet — A hose that has worked its way out of the standpipe, or a loose clamp at the machine end, discharges onto the floor under pump pressure. Ranked here because a hose out of its outlet wets the floor only while the pump runs.
- Too much detergent is pushing water out — Oversudsing lifts water above the door seal and out of the vents. Placed here: suds carry water past a seal that is otherwise perfectly good.
- The tub seal or bearing housing — Water leaking from the centre of the machine, or rust streaks below the drum shaft, means the tub seal. Last, and that is the point of the order: it is the one cause here that is not an owner repair, so it is checked last.
Check in this order, and why
- Dry each joint and lay paper towel under it — Open the taps, wait, and read the towels; the wet one names the joint.
- Watch the outlet during the drain — Secure the hose at the standpipe and check the clamp at the machine end.
- Only after the accessible sources are dry — Water from the centre of the machine, or rust below the shaft, is a service call and a cost worth weighing.

- Dry everything and lay paper towel at each joint — Under both taps, both fill hoses, the drain connection and the front-bottom corners.
