The short answer
A new noise from a Huebsch dryer is usually a support, a belt or something loose in the blower rather than a failing motor. The first thing to check: drive belt worn or frayed. What the noise sounds like narrows it to one part before any panel comes off.
What you observe
- A rhythmic thump in time with the drum — Drum supports, which wear gradually.
- A squeal that rises as the drum speeds up — The belt, usually before it breaks.

Causes, most likely first on a Huebsch dryer
- Drive belt worn or frayed — A belt that is glazing squeals, and one that is fraying slaps once per drum revolution. The drum usually still turns, so the complaint is noise rather than failure, at least at first. Commercial laundry runs on scheduled parts. The overdue service item is the likeliest answer here, and it is the answer the service history usually confirms.
- Machine unlevel or touching a wall or a neighbouring machine — A dryer that rocks or leans on the washer beside it turns ordinary vibration into a drone. It sounds like a mechanical fault and it moves the moment the machine does. Commercial installation carries its own requirements for the drain, the airway and the supply, and a short cut in any of them shows up as a machine fault.
- Blower wheel loose or lint-packed — A blower wheel that has loosened on its shaft, or one packed with lint, whirrs, buzzes or howls for the whole cycle. It usually comes with poor drying, because the same lint is blocking the airflow. A machine running this many cycles fills an airway far faster than a domestic one, and a restricted airway is the single most common cause on this build. It goes first.
Check in this order, and why
- Listen for a squeal that rises as the drum comes up to speed — A squeal is a belt until proven otherwise. It is first because it is the highest-ranked cause here.
- Push the top corners and see whether the machine rocks or touches anything — Free to check and a real answer surprisingly often. Second: the next most likely, and free to rule out.
- Note whether the noise is constant and paired with slow drying — A constant noise with poor drying points at the air path. Third, and only once the two above are clean.
What an owner can safely check
- Level all four feet and pull the machine clear of its neighbours — Check the vent duct behind it is not crushed or rubbing against the cabinet.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or reaching into the lint filter housing. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never run a dryer with a panel removed or the vent disconnected into the room, and keep the lint path clean, because lint is fuel. If you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or the emergency number from outside.
When to call a technician
Call when the noise is a rhythmic thump or a continuous grind, when the drum has become hard to turn by hand, or when a squeal arrives with weak drum rotation. Call immediately if you smell burning. A rattle that turns out to be a coin, or a drone that disappears when the machine is levelled, needs no visit at all, which is why the free checks come first.
