How to Maintain an LG CordZero Vacuum

The brushless Smart Inverter Motor is rated for over 10 years, yet most early failures trace to neglected filters, overfilled bins, or poor charging habits. This covers the CordZero A9 series and applies across the A9, A9K, and A9+ models.

Step-by-step#

Step 1: Set the schedule#

For typical use (3-4 times a week), empty the Kompressor bin every 2-3 sessions, wash the pre-motor filter monthly, replace the HEPA filter every 6-12 months, and check the brush bar weekly. Pet owners and daily users should double the filter frequency, and the LG ThinQ app will track usage hours and remind you.

Step 2: Service the Kompressor bin#

The Kompressor paddle compresses dust to a third of its volume for about 2.4 times the capacity, but that packs fine dust onto the walls. Monthly, rinse the bin in warm water, brush the paddle's rubber edges, and clear the small air-exit port at the top of the bin, which clogs silently.

Step 3: Wash the pre-motor filter#

This cone-shaped filter is the single most important item — it guards the motor. Twist it out monthly, tap it over the trash, then rinse under warm water until it runs clear (2-3 minutes for a loaded one). Squeeze gently, never wring, and air-dry a full 24 hours; a damp filter draws moisture into the motor and corrodes the bearings.

Step 4: Service the HEPA exhaust filter#

The HEPA element captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns and is not washable — water ruins the pleats. Monthly, tap it against a hard surface outdoors, then blow compressed air in short bursts from the clean (motor) side outward. Replace it when it looks uniformly gray or suction does not recover after washing the pre-motor filter.

Step 5: Clear the brush bar#

Hair and thread wrap the bar at the bearings and bristle rows. Weekly, release the bar via the red slide-lock, cut the wrapped hair at the center, and pull it off each end. Clear the bearing wells with a dry cotton swab — packed hair there overheats the brush motor.

Step 6: Care for the battery#

Lithium-ion cells age faster stored empty or left at 100% on the charger. Charge after each use, pull it off once the LED turns solid green, and store at room temperature. For storage over 2 weeks, charge to about 50-60% and remove the battery from the unit.

Step 7: Clean contacts and do an annual check#

Every 3 months, wipe the battery, dock, and wand contacts with a dry microfiber, burnishing any tarnish with a pencil eraser — corroded contacts mimic a weak battery. Once a year, inspect the seals, wand interior, nozzle wheels, and mount screws, and test suction at each level to set a baseline.

When to call a pro#

Call a technician if the motor changes from a whine to a grind with clean filters (failing bearings), if the battery gets hot when charging or in use (a cell or circuit fault), if the vacuum will not power on with a good battery and clean contacts, or if the housing is cracked and letting dust bypass the filters.
