The short answer
When ice stops on a Haier refrigerator, the water supply and the freezer temperature account for most of it, and the ice maker itself for far less than owners expect. On this build the platform is high volume and widely shared, so the parts are easy to get and the failure pattern is well known, which is why the supply side comes first below. The first two checks need no tools and take minutes.
What you observe
- The mould is empty and dry — Water is not arriving. That is a supply, valve or line problem, not an ice maker problem.
- The mould holds a solid block of ice that will not release — Water arrives and the harvest fails, which points at the mould heater or the ejector.
- Ice is produced but slowly, and the cubes are hollow or small — Low water pressure, a restricted filter or a freezer that is not cold enough.
- NEAR MISS: water pools under the unit and there is no ice — That is a supply leak rather than an ice fault, and the water-leak page is the one you want.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- Freezer running too warm for the harvest cycle — Ranked first on this build: a compact cabinet packed full and opened often never reaches the temperature the harvest cycle needs, and this is the most common non-fault on this class.
- Water supply off, kinked, or the shut-off not fully open — Second: a kinked line behind the cabinet or a valve knocked during a clean stops the water before it reaches the machine.
- Clogged water filter or a frozen fill tube — Third: a filter at the end of its life, or ice plugging the fill tube, throttles the water without stopping it.
- Ice maker module, thermostat or shut-off arm fault — Last: a real possibility once supply and temperature are clean, and the part is usually replaced whole.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the shut-off valve behind or below the cabinet is fully open — This is the first check because it is the most common cause and it costs nothing.
- Check the filter age and the fill tube for ice — A restricted fill and a failed ice maker look identical from the front.
- Put a glass of water with a thermometer in the freezer overnight — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and the harvest cycle needs it that cold too.

- Replace the water filter and run several litres through the dispenser — Flushing clears the air that stops a new filter delivering full flow.

Before you open anything
Safety
Switch off the water supply before disturbing any line, and unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing a panel, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never thaw a frozen fill tube with anything hotter than warm water, and never with a naked flame near the cabinet. Do not force the ejector arm by hand: it is geared, and forcing it strips the drive.
When to call a technician
Call once the supply is open, the filter is fresh and the freezer holds temperature and the mould is still dry, because the next check is a meter on the inlet valve. Call straight away if you find water dripping anywhere along the supply line, because the line is under constant pressure and a slow drip does not stay slow. Parts for this platform are stocked widely and a technician will usually carry the common ones, so a confirmed diagnosis and the repair often happen in the same visit.
