What this usually means
On a Gorenje washer, most leaks are at the door seal, the detergent drawer or a supply hose connection rather than inside the machine, and all three are visible from outside. Front loaders leak at the door seal most often because things get trapped in the fold. A supply hose that lets go is the most damaging leak of all, and the one worth checking on a schedule.
The symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- Water appears only while the machine drains — The drain hose, its clip, or the pump housing.
- A steady drip from the base after a filter clean — The filter cover is not seated squarely or its seal is flattened.
- Water appears at the front of the machine during the wash — Door seal or detergent drawer in most cases.
- NEAR MISS: water stands in the drum and the floor is dry — That is a drainage fault and belongs on the page for a washer that will not drain.
What it usually is, in order of likelihood
- An overfilled or blocked detergent drawer — A drawer clogged with softener residue backs up during fill and overflows down the front of the machine, which looks exactly like a serious leak. Ranked first on a Gorenje washer: these machines are specified for detergents and loads that a North American household often does not use.
- A drain hose connection that has worked loose — The drain hose is under pressure only while the pump runs, so a loose clip there leaks in a burst during drain and is dry the rest of the time. Ranked second on a Gorenje washer: the drain and filter design assumes the owner cleans it on a schedule, and that is the assumption that fails first.
- A door seal holding debris or torn at the fold — Coins, hair and grit collect in the lower fold of a front-loader seal and wear a small tear that leaks only when the drum is full and turning. Ranked third on a Gorenje washer: European cycle logic is long and gentle, so a partial fault is tolerated for weeks and only the end of it is visible.
The order to work in, and the reason for it
- Pull the drawer right out and look at the housing behind it — A thick layer of residue in the housing means the drawer cannot clear itself.
- Watch the back of the machine during the drain stage specifically — A leak that appears only during drain is the pump, the hose or the clip that joins them.
- Fold back the door seal all the way round and look inside it — Debris and small tears both hide in the lower fold where nobody looks.

- Remove the drawer, wash it and clean the housing and jets behind it — Then use the correct dose: excess detergent is what creates the residue in the first place.

Read this before you start
Safety
Switch off the breaker before mopping round or behind the machine, and close both supply taps before touching any hose. A washer full of water is extremely heavy — never tip one that has not drained. Open a pump filter slowly with towels and a shallow tray in place. Treat a supply-hose leak as urgent: those hoses are under mains pressure whenever the taps are open.
When this becomes a service call
Call once the seal, the drawer, both supply connections, the drain hose and the filter cover are all proven dry and water still appears — what remains is the tub, the shaft seal or the pump housing, all of which mean a strip-down. Call immediately for any leak that reaches an outlet or an extension lead, and switch the breaker off before returning to it.
