An ice maker that has stopped is usually waiting for water or is frozen where the water arrives, and only rarely has the module itself failed. On a Galanz refrigerator this matters because it is a high volume value build with simple hardware, where the parts you touch every day are the parts that wear, which decides which end of that chain gives out first. The first two checks below need nothing but your hands.
What you actually observe
- The bin is empty and the mould is dry — A dry mould means no water is arriving, so the fault is upstream of the ice maker itself.
- The cabinet is compact and is usually filled to its limit — A small cabinet with small vents is unforgiving about loading, and loading is free to change.
- NEAR MISS: the dispenser is dead and the light is out too — That is a dispenser or door switch problem rather than an ice making problem, and it belongs on a different page.
The causes, most likely first on this brand
- Warm air reaching the bin and welding the cubes together — A door left ajar or a failing seal melts and refreezes the bin into one block, which reads to the owner as no ice at all. Ranked first on a Galanz refrigerator: the door hardware is the part the owner touches every single day, and on a value build it is the first thing to loosen.
- The inlet valve, the filter or the supply itself — A saddle valve that was never opened fully, a clogged filter or a weak valve all show as an ice maker that never fills. Ranked second on a Galanz refrigerator: the fill hardware is a plain valve and a plain hose, and both are cheap to check and cheap to replace.
- A cabinet that is not level, spilling or under filling the mould — A mould that sits out of true fills unevenly, so the cubes come out small or the water runs before it can freeze. Ranked third on a Galanz refrigerator: a light cabinet on an uneven floor rocks, and a rocking cabinet is noisy and drains badly at once.
Check in this order, and why this order
- Look at how the cabinet is loaded before suspecting any part — How the cabinet is loaded changes what it is able to do, and loading is the one variable that is free to change.
- Check the shut off arm or the ice level sensor first — It costs nothing and it is the commonest reason a working ice maker makes no ice.

- Move packing clear of every vent and the fan grille, then run it for a day — Leave a real gap at each vent rather than a token one.

- Lower the shut off arm, or clear frost from the level sensor windows, and wait a cycle — Give it a few hours before judging it. An ice maker fills, freezes and ejects on its own schedule.

Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the refrigerator off at the outlet or the breaker before putting a hand near the ice maker, because the ejector arm turns under power and will not stop for you. Never clear a frozen fill tube with a heat gun or a sharp tool: the tube and the liner are plastic and both melt. Shut the water supply off before touching any fitting behind the cabinet.
When to call a technician
Call once the arm, the filter, the valve and the frost are all dealt with and the mould still stays dry or still stays frozen, because the next step is a module, a valve or a sealed tube and it needs a panel off and a meter. Call sooner if you find water under the cabinet or a fitting weeping at the back, since a slow leak behind a refrigerator does more damage than the ice maker fault ever will.
