Frigidaire Washer Control Board Replacement Guide — Cost, Signs & DIY Tips
Frigidaire washers split into two distinct platforms with very different control board architectures: the EFLS front-load series (Gallery/Affinity) uses IQ-Touch capacitive controls with sophisticated motor speed management, and the FFTW top-load series uses a simpler electronic board with mechanical-feel buttons and basic wash logic.
EFLS Front-Load Board Architecture
Gallery/Affinity front-load washers (EFLS prefix) use two boards: a capacitive touch interface (behind the console overlay) and a main control board (behind the console or mounted on the rear of the washer). The IQ-Touch interface is the same capacitive technology used in Frigidaire Gallery dryers — and it shares the same vulnerability to moisture. Steam from hot wash cycles or proximity to a dryer can cause unresponsive buttons.
Front-Load Board Failure Symptoms
- Buttons unresponsive on the IQ-Touch panel — moisture on the capacitive touch layer. Dry the console area first (hair dryer on low) before assuming board failure
- E11 error (fill problem) with a good inlet valve — the board is not sending the fill signal
- E21 error (drain problem) with a good drain pump — the board is not sending the drain signal
- Motor does not spin despite the board displaying a cycle — the motor control output on the main board has failed. The board commands the motor via a triac or relay
- Door lock does not engage — the board controls the door lock wax motor. If the lock connector has voltage during a cycle start attempt, the lock has failed. If no voltage, the board output has failed

FFTW Top-Load Board Architecture
Top-load washers (FFTW prefix) use a single-board design accessed by removing the console. The board manages a simpler motor (typically a belt-drive motor with a transmission, rather than the direct-drive system used by some competitors). The interface is standard pushbutton or rotary dial.
Top-Load Board Failure Symptoms
- Cycle selector does not respond — the board's input circuit has failed for that switch
- Motor runs but does not agitate or spin — the board's motor direction relay has failed. The motor spins one direction for agitation and the other for spin
- Timer does not advance — the electronic timer circuit on the board has failed. The washer stays in one cycle phase indefinitely

Accessing the Board
EFLS Front-Load
- Unplug the washer.
- Remove the top panel (3 Phillips screws at the rear, slide panel backward).
- The control board is behind the console at the front or on the rear frame. Tilt the console forward (spring clips or screws at rear).
- Photograph connectors. Swap boards.
FFTW Top-Load
- Unplug the washer.
- Remove the console end caps (pry off with flat-head).
- Remove console mounting screws at each end.
- Tilt console forward. Board is on the back of the console.
- Photograph connectors. Swap boards.
Tools: Phillips #2, flat-head screwdriver. Time: 20–35 minutes.

IQ-Touch Moisture Prevention
If the washer sits next to a dryer, steam from the dryer can migrate to the washer console and cause IQ-Touch failures. Add weatherstripping between the two appliances to block steam. Also ensure the washer's dispenser drawer is fully closed after adding detergent — a partially open drawer allows steam to rise directly into the console area.
The Real Cost of DIY

Error Code Reference
Common EFLS front-load error codes: E11 (fill), E13 (leak), E21 (drain), E35 (water level sensor), dE (door lock), E52 (motor). Check whether the board is sending the signal to the component, or whether the component itself has failed, before ordering a board.
FAQ
Why are my Frigidaire washer buttons unresponsive?
On IQ-Touch models (EFLS): moisture behind the capacitive panel. Dry the console thoroughly. If unresponsive after drying, the touch interface board has failed.
How do I access the Frigidaire washer control board?
EFLS front-load: remove top panel (3 rear screws), tilt console forward. FFTW top-load: remove console end caps and mounting screws, tilt forward.
Can I replace just the touch panel on my Frigidaire washer?
Yes — the IQ-Touch interface and main control board are separate components. Diagnose which one failed before ordering.
What does E21 mean on my Frigidaire washer?
Drain error. Check the drain pump filter first (behind lower-left door on front-load). If filter is clean and pump runs, the board may not be sending the drain signal.
