The short answer
On Fotile an oven that stops or locks part way through is most often a door lock stuck after a self-clean. Ranked that way because the control runs the elements through relays and reads a sensor, so the electronics sit in the path of almost every fault on this machine.
What you observe
- The door is locked and will not release — Almost always a self-clean cycle that has not completed its cool-down.
- It stops only on long or high-temperature cooks — A thermal cut-out opening, usually because the vent path is restricted.
- NEAR MISS: it never heats at all from the start — That is a heating failure rather than a cycle fault, and it has its own page.
Causes, most likely first on Fotile
- The door lock is stuck after a self-clean — First on a fitted machine, which is only ever as good as its installation. Self-clean runs the cavity extremely hot and locks the door until it cools. A lock motor that has jammed, or a cut-out blown by the heat, leaves an oven that is locked, dead or both, and it is the single most common trigger for this fault.
- A timer, auto-off or sabbath setting is ending the cycle — Second: on a fitted machine this is the next thing genuinely yours to check. Most ovens shut themselves off after a set period unless told otherwise, and an auto or delayed setting left in place ends a cycle to the minute. A stop that is always at the same elapsed time is describing exactly this.
- The temperature sensor is reading wrongly — Third. An oven that believes it is hotter than it is will cut the heat early and look like a stopped cycle.
- A relay, the door lock assembly or the control board has failed — Last, and it is the reason the order above matters. It stops at the same point with the settings cleared, the vents clear, the sensor sound and a power cycle done.
Check in this order, and why
- Ask whether a self-clean cycle has been run recently — A recent self-clean explains a locked door and a dead control at once, which nothing else does.
- Note whether the shut-off happens at the same elapsed time every session — A stop to the minute is a setting, not a fault, and it is free to rule out.
- With the oven cold, look at the sensor probe in the cavity — A probe touching the wall or bent against a rack is visible without a tool.
What an owner can safely check
- Let the oven cool completely, then power-cycle at the breaker and retry — Never force a locked door: the lock motor has to complete its travel.
About 60 min
- Cancel any timer, auto-off or delayed setting and run a plain bake to compare — An oven that now runs on is telling you the setting was the whole story.
About 30 min
- Check the sensor probe stands clear of the wall and the racks, and straighten the racks — Do not bend the probe itself.
Tools: torchAbout 15 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a meter on live terminals — That is where an owner check ends and a service call begins.
Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the oven off at its breaker before removing any panel, and let the cavity cool fully first. Never force a locked door: the lock motor has to complete its travel and forcing it breaks the mechanism and can trap the door permanently. If you smell gas at a gas oven, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building and call the gas utility or the emergency services from outside.
When to call a technician
Call when the settings are cleared, the vents are clear, the sensor is sound, a power cycle has been done and it still stops at the same point, because that puts the fault in a relay, the lock assembly or the control. Call immediately if the door is locked and will not release after a full cool-down, or if anything smells hot.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the brand and the oven class, not one family or model line. Where a family-specific or model-specific page exists for your unit, that page is the more specific answer and it takes precedence over this one. Not here: part numbers, wiring colours and component locations, which differ by family.
