The short answer
On Forno a machine that will not start is most often a closed water supply, not a failed control board. Ranked that way because the machine is plumbed into a cabinet run where the hose route was set once at install and never revisited.
What you observe
- The panel is completely dark — A power problem rather than an appliance problem. Check the breaker and any switched spur.
- The panel lights but nothing happens when you press start — Points at the door latch or a control lock rather than at power.
- NEAR MISS: it starts, runs a while and then stops mid-cycle — That is a different fault. Note where in the cycle it stops, because that narrows it considerably.
Causes, most likely first on Forno
- The water supply is off or the machine is not filling — First on a fitted machine, which is only ever as good as its installation. A machine that cannot fill will often sit apparently doing nothing, or hum briefly and stop. A supply valve closed during other work under the sink is the usual reason, and it looks nothing like a plumbing fault from the front.
- A control lock, child lock or delay start is set — Second: on a fitted machine this is the next thing genuinely yours to check. Machines hold a lock setting through a power cut, and a delayed start looks exactly like a refusal to run. A key symbol, a clock symbol or a panel that beeps and does nothing are all this cause rather than a fault.
- There is no power at the machine — Third. A tripped breaker, a switched spur left off after other work, or a junction-box connection that has worked loose.
- The touch panel, door switch or control board has failed — Last, and it is the reason the order above matters. The panel is dead in one area, or the machine will not respond with power confirmed, the door latched and no lock set.

- Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open — It explains a machine that starts and then goes quiet rather than one that is completely dead.
- Read the panel for a key or clock symbol before pressing anything else — It explains a machine that beeps and does nothing, and it costs nothing to rule out.
- Look at the control panel: dark is a power problem, lit is not — One glance splits the whole list in two, which is why it comes so early.
What an owner can safely check
- Open the supply valve fully, then start a cycle and listen for the fill — A fill you can hear means water is arriving and the fault is elsewhere.

Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the machine off at its breaker before pulling it out or opening the junction box underneath. A dishwasher is hard-wired or plugged into an outlet you cannot see, and both sit where water collects. Never defeat the door latch to make a machine run with the door open, and never reset a breaker twice that has tripped twice.
When to call a technician
Call when the door latches properly, the panel is lit, no lock is set, the water is on and the machine still will not start, because that puts the fault in the door switch or the control. Call immediately, and leave the breaker off, if the machine trips the breaker when you restore power or anything smells hot.
