The short answer
On Finlux a machine that will not drain is most often an object jamming the pump impeller, not a dead pump. Ranked that way because the drain pump sits behind a front access flap with its own filter, which puts a user-serviceable part ahead of everything expensive.
What you observe
- Water standing in the drum at the end of the cycle — The standard signature. It is a blockage far more often than a pump.
- Clothes come out soaking rather than damp — The machine could not drain, so it could not spin.
- NEAR MISS: the drum drains fine but the clothes are still wet — Then it is a spin fault rather than a drainage one, and the load balance is the first thing to look at.
Causes, most likely first on Finlux
- An object has reached the pump impeller — First here, because this platform interprets little and shows the fault almost directly. A coin, an underwire or a hair grip jams the impeller so it cannot turn, and the pump buzzes without moving water. It is found in the same place as the filter and often comes out with it.
- The pump filter is blocked — Second, and the cause that most often looks like something worse. Lint, hair, coins and tissue collect in the filter behind the lower front flap, and once it is packed the pump cannot move water past it. This is the designed maintenance point and it is the first thing any technician opens.
- The drain hose is kinked, blocked or pushed too far into the standpipe — Third. A hose crushed behind the machine, or pushed so far down the standpipe that it siphons, produces water that will not leave or that comes straight back.
- The drain pump has failed — Last, and it is the reason the order above matters. Silence where the pump should be, or a steady hum with a clear filter, a clear impeller and clear plumbing.
Check in this order, and why
- With the filter out, reach in and turn the impeller by hand — An impeller that will not turn freely names the fault outright.
- Open the lower front flap and look at the filter — It is the designed access point, it costs nothing, and it resolves the largest share of these faults.
- Pull the machine out and follow the drain hose to the standpipe or sink trap — It explains a machine that drains slowly, or refills itself, with a clean filter.
What an owner can safely check
- With the machine unplugged and the filter out, turn the impeller by hand — Remove anything jamming it, refit the filter fully and retest.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine before opening the filter flap or reaching near the impeller, and have a tray and towels ready because the drum is full and the hose holds more than it looks. Never force a door open on a full drum: drain it through the filter hose first. Wear gloves when you reach into the pump: glass, pins and underwires all end up there.
When to call a technician
Call when the filter, the impeller, the hose and the waste plumbing are all clear and the drum still holds water, because that puts the fault in the pump itself. Call sooner if the machine trips its breaker, if anything smells hot, or if water is escaping onto the floor as well, and leave it unplugged in the meantime.
