The short answer
A leaking Cove DW Dishwasher is rarely a cracked tub. On these models the ordinary causes are the door gasket, over-sudsing from the wrong detergent, and a connection at the fill valve — in that order — and two of the three cost nothing to rule out.
What you see on the DW family
- Water on the floor directly in front of the door — The classic door-seal or levelling pattern. It arrives during the wash rather than at the fill.
- Foam pushing out around the door — Over-sudsing, almost always from hand dish soap or too much detergent in soft water. The machine is fine; the chemistry is not.
- A puddle under the machine with a dry door — Supply side or sump. It means pulling the toe kick to see where it originates, which is where the owner checks end.
- Water appears only on the heavy or hot cycles — Heat expands gaskets and raises pressure. A seal that only leaks hot is still a failing seal.
Causes, most likely first on the DW family
- Over-sudsing from the wrong detergent — Ranked first on the DW family — when the leak started with a new detergent or after someone topped up with hand soap, this is the whole fault and no part is involved. Hand dish soap in the dispenser produces foam the machine cannot contain, and it pushes past the door seal as if the seal had failed. Excess automatic detergent in soft water does the same thing more slowly.
- Fill valve, inlet connection or hose — Second — it explains a wet cabinet with a dry door better than anything else on the list. The supply connection lives in the cabinet under the sink and the valve sits at the front of the machine behind the toe kick.
- Door gasket and door alignment — Third — always near the top: the gasket is visible, cheap and the usual answer when the water lands in front of the door. The gasket hardens and takes a set, and the door drops slightly on its hinges over the years. Either one lets a thin sheet of water past at the bottom corners while the machine sprays.
- Sump gasket, pump seal or a cracked hose — Fourth — and the only group on this list that is not an owner repair on these models. The sump assembly seals to the tub with a gasket that ages, and the internal hoses are clamped. A leak here appears under the middle of the machine and only while it is running.
- Body: The order below follows the shared parts rather than the differences — the stems in the DW family carry the same running gear and diverge at the cabinet — which is why the top of this list is not where the brand-generic article puts it.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Dry the floor completely and note where the water returns — Front of the door, under the middle, or in the sink cabinet. This one observation removes most of the list.
- 2. Inspect the gasket all the way round with the door open — Look for hardening, tears and a flattened lower corner. Wipe it and the sealing face while you are there.
- 3. Run one cycle with no detergent at all — If the leak disappears, it was suds. This is the cheapest test on the page and it is decisive.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water on a kitchen floor next to a live appliance is the hazard here: switch off at the breaker before you kneel down to work, and shut the supply valve under the sink before touching any fitting. Do not run the machine to reproduce a leak while the toe kick is off and the wiring is exposed.
