The short answer
When a CBMmart CBMU washer leaks, the temptation is to look under it. Look at it instead, running, with the machine pulled clear of the wall: the step at which the water appears narrows the candidates to one or two. The matrix below names a single model tag for this family, so there is no revision fork to work around: what holds for that tag holds for the whole line.
What you can observe on these models
- Water appears as the machine fills — The inlet hoses, their washers or the valve. It is the one group that leaks even with the machine switched off, because the hoses are under mains pressure at all times.
- Water appears during the wash, at the front — On a front-loading machine that is the door seal: a tear, a trapped object, or a build-up holding the lip open.
- Water appears during the spin only — A connection that only leaks when the tub moves, or an overfilled tub throwing water past a seal that copes at rest.
- NEAR MISS — water on the floor after opening a front-loading door — Water left in the seal lip runs out when the door opens, which is normal on that design and not a leak.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- The door seal, on a front-loading machine — Ranked first on that design because the seal takes every load in and out, traps coins and underwires in its fold, and tears at the point where things are dragged over it. It leaks during the wash and it leaves water at the front, which is the signature combination.
- Inlet hose washers, the tap or the fill valve — Second on this line. It is the only leak group that grows while the machine is switched off, which makes it both the easiest to identify and the one worth checking first after a move.
- The drain hose, its clamp, or the pump housing — Third, and often found with a drainage complaint, because a partly blocked pump raises pressure in a hose that was coping until then.
- Overfilling, from a pressure switch or a blocked air-dome tube — Fourth, and recognisable because the water level in the drum looks wrong rather than the leak looking dramatic. It is service work, but it explains a leak nobody can locate.
- The tub seal or the bearing — Last, and deliberately so. A tub seal leaks from the centre rear and usually arrives with a roar in spin that has been growing for months. It is the expensive answer, and putting it last is what stops an owner writing off a machine that needed a hose washer.
Check in this order, and why
- Dry everything and pull the machine clear — You cannot time a leak you cannot see. Dry the floor, put paper down, and give yourself a view of the back and the base before starting a short cycle.
- Watch the wash step, at the door and the base — On a front-loading machine, run a finger round the seal fold and look for a tear at the lower edge where items are dragged across it.
- Watch the drain and spin steps — A leak that appears only here is the drain hose, its clamp or the pump. One that appears only in spin is a connection that moves, or an overfill.
Before you open anything

Disconnect power at the plug or the breaker before any panel comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the taps before disturbing an inlet hose — those hoses carry mains pressure at all times, and a hose released under pressure empties a room quickly. Dry as you go, and treat water from a hot cycle as scalding.

When to call a technician
The owner line runs to the connections and the seal fold. It is crossed at the fill valve, the pressure switch and the tub seal — all of which need the cabinet open and the first two of which are electrically live. A tub-seal leak in particular is worth quoting against a replacement machine before parts are ordered, because it is usually accompanied by bearing wear.
