The short answer
A Caf M ice maker fails in a pattern: water arrives or it does not, and the mould harvests or it does not. The matrix below lists two model tags that differ only in their trailing revision characters, so a part that suits one usually suits its neighbours, and the tag still decides. Settling which half is broken takes one look into the mould and costs nothing, and it is the step the brand-generic article cannot put in the right order for a specific platform.
What you can observe on these models
- The ice maker runs but the dispenser delivers nothing — That splits the fault into the delivery chute and auger rather than the maker itself.
- A frost plug at the end of the fill tube — The visible signature of a fill that overshot or a tube that lost its alignment; the next fill freezes on top of the last.
- Ice production stopped after a filter change — An unseated cartridge or an aftermarket filter that does not match the head restricts flow immediately.
- NEAR MISS — no ice and no cooling either — If the freezer is not holding temperature, the ice maker is a symptom. Work the cooling page first; the ice returns when the cold does.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Freezer temperature above the harvest point — First on a cabinet whose cubes are also fusing in the bin: both symptoms come from the same warm freezer, and fixing the ice maker would fix nothing.
- Supply flow — shutoff partly closed, filter restricted or a kinked line — Second because it is the cause that reappears after any move or filter change.
- Fill tube ice plug — Third: it follows from the two causes above rather than standing alone, so clearing it without fixing them buys a few days.
- Dispenser chute or auger jam — Fourth — empty the bin, break the sheet under it and try again before ordering anything.
- Module, ejector or inlet valve — Last: the electrical parts, and the ones that need a meter to condemn honestly.
Check in this order, and why
- Read the freezer temperature against 0 °F (−18 °C) — Harvest waits on the mould reaching its release point, so a warm freezer stalls a perfectly good ice maker.
- Date the water filter — A cartridge past its life, or an aftermarket one that does not seat in this head, drops flow before it drops taste.
- Trace the supply line from the shutoff to the unit — Look for a crushed line behind the cabinet and a valve that is only part open; both are common after a move.
- Only then look at the module — By this point the water side is proven, and a module that still will not cycle is a real fault rather than an assumption.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before reaching behind the ice maker or removing a panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not chip a frozen fill tube or a bin sheet with a screwdriver: the tube deforms and the evaporator tubing behind it punctures easily. Warm air at a distance is the only safe way to clear ice on the Caf M family.

When to call a technician
Clearing ice, reseating a bin, changing a cartridge and opening a shutoff are yours. Call once a part has to be condemned — valve, module, thermostat or auger motor — because each of those needs the tag from the interior label and a test rather than a guess. Call urgently if you find water pooled under the cabinet rather than inside it.
