The short answer
Door problems on the EC family show up in two ways: as a machine that will not run, because the interlocks are not satisfied, or as visible damage. The first is a service call; the second is a reason to unplug the appliance and leave it unplugged until someone has looked at it.
What you observe on these models
- A latch tab is bent, chipped or missing — Visible at the door edge, and a reason to stop rather than to adjust.
- The door face is dented or deformed — Usually from being leaned on or loaded, and it changes how the door meets the frame.
- Burn marks or discolouration around the door frame — A serious finding: unplug and call rather than clean it off and carry on.
- The appliance runs but the door feels loose when closed — Worth acting on before it becomes a machine that will not run at all.

Causes, most likely first on the EC family
- Alignment: hinges and how the door sits — First on the three models below where the complaint is a door needing a push. Geometry rather than wear, and it usually has a cause - a knock, a move, or years of weight on an open door.
- Latch mechanism — Second, and the most common finding overall: the tab, the hook or the switch behind it.
- Physical damage to the door assembly — Third. Visible, and the reason to stop rather than adjust.
- Frame and cabinet fit on built-in installations — Last, and worth checking where the appliance was recently installed or moved.
Check in this order, and why
- First: unplug before inspecting anything — Everything below is a visual and tactile check, and none of it needs the appliance live.
- Second: work round the door systematically — Hinge side, latch side, top, bottom, then the window. On the EC family damage is often only obvious at one point.
- Third: check the frame as well as the door — The surface the door meets carries half the seal; burn marks or deformation there are as significant as damage to the door.
- Fourth: decide use or stop — A door with damaged shielding or a broken latch means the appliance stays unplugged until it is repaired.

Do not try to straighten a bent latch or realign a door yourself, and do not run the appliance while working out what is wrong with it. The door and frame together contain the output, so damage to either is a reason to unplug the appliance and leave it unplugged. The cabinet must never be removed - the stored charge inside it is lethal.

When to call a technician
Call as soon as a latch is damaged, a door has dropped, the window or mesh is compromised, or the appliance only runs when the door is pressed. On the EC family none of those are owner adjustments, and all of them mean the appliance should be unplugged rather than used carefully in the meantime.
