The short answer
A BBB unit that makes no ice is asking one of two questions: is water arriving, and is the compartment cold enough to freeze it. This page ranks the causes in that order because on this platform the module is rarely the part that failed.
What you observe
- Mould fills but the ice never releases — A temperature or harvest fault rather than a supply fault.
- Hollow, small or slow-forming cubes — Partial supply restriction, often a part-closed stop tap or a clogged filter.
- Ice production stopped after a filter change — Air in the line or a filter not seated home, and it clears once the line is purged.
- Cubes fused into a single block in the bin — Slow production and repeated partial melting, which points at compartment temperature.
- NEAR MISS - the whole cabinet is warm — Fix the cooling fault first; ice production is the first thing to stop when a cabinet warms.
Causes, most likely first on BBB
- Water filter overdue or restricting — Ranked first on the BBB family: a filter behind a built-in grille is out of sight and routinely forgotten. These codes share an evaporator arrangement and a defrost scheme, so a finding on one is worth assuming on the rest. This moves above water supply: stop tap, line or a frozen fill tube, which leads the brand-generic order, because these models share one layout, so its weak point shows across the whole family.
- Water supply: stop tap, line or a frozen fill tube — Second: the fill tube runs through the coldest part of the cabinet, and a tube that ices closed stops production with everything else working perfectly.
- Ice module, fill valve or the harvest mechanism — Third: the valve is at the back of the housing and is a service item on a built-in cabinet.
- Freezer compartment not cold enough — Fourth: a tall cabinet can be cold at one end and marginal at the other, so the ice module sees a different temperature from the food.
- Arm, switch or the ice-off setting — Last: a control lock or a setting left off during a service visit produces a perfect no-ice fault.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the arm or the ice-off setting first — It takes seconds and explains a total no-ice with nothing broken.
- Purge several litres through the dispenser where one is fitted — It clears air after a filter change, which is the commonest post-service complaint.
- Check the bin is fully home and the chute is clear — A bin not seated holds the arm up or blocks the chute and stops production entirely.
- Check the compartment temperature before blaming the module — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below; above that, no module will keep up.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply at the stop tap before touching any fill line, and treat the sealed system as off limits: refrigerant work is licensed work.
When to call a technician
Call once water is proven to reach the mould and the compartment is cold enough but no ice forms: what is left is the module or its harvest circuit, and neither is an owner part here.
