The short answer
A leaking BTLW machine is telling you where to look by when it leaks. Water during fill is the supply side; water during drain is the hose or the pump; water that appears at any time is the door seal or an overflow.
What you observe
- Water or foam at the detergent drawer — A blocked or overfilled drawer backing up. It reads as a leak and is usually a dosing or a cleaning matter.
- Water from around the door or lid during a wash — The seal or the way the machine is loaded. On a front-loading model a trapped garment will do it every time.
- A slow puddle even when the machine is not running — A tap and a fitting that weeps under standing pressure.
- Water appears only while the machine empties — The drain hose, its connection or the standpipe backing up.
Causes, most likely first
- An inlet hose or its washer at either end — First on this family. These machines are connected and disconnected far more often than a plumbed-in one, and the rubber washer inside the fitting is what pays for it.
- The tub, its seal or an internal hose — Last. It is the expensive cause and the least likely on this family - and on a machine this size it is usually a replacement decision rather than a repair.
- The drain hose connection or its route — Second. A hose that has been crushed behind a foot, or one that is no longer secured where it discharges, puts water on the floor only while the pump runs.
- Door or lid seal, and how the machine is loaded — A garment trapped in the seal gives a leak on that wash and none on the next, which is why it is so often misread as intermittent. On a compact drum it is easy to do.
Check in this order
- Wipe the door or lid seal and look along it for a trapped garment — Explains a leak that happens on one wash and not the next without any part being at fault.
- Dry everything and run a cycle, noting exactly when water appears — Fill, wash, drain and idle are four different faults.
- Check the pump filter cover is fully seated — Early, because it is free, and because a cover left loose after a cleaning is a very common self-inflicted leak.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Dry the floor before moving the machine: a compact washer on a wet floor slides rather than walks, and it is heavier than it looks when the drum still holds water.

When to call
Call when the fittings are dry under pressure, the drain hose is sound and secured, the filter cover is seated, the seal is clear and water still appears. At that point the leak is inside the cabinet, which means the pump housing, an internal hose or the tub - all behind a panel.
