What this usually is
On the Bertazzoni RBM cabinet the place water appears tells you almost everything. Inside the fresh-food compartment means the defrost drain; under the front edge means the drain or the seal; a spreading puddle behind means the supply line, and that one does not wait.
What you observe on these models
- Condensation or frost on the inner door face — Warm room air is reaching the liner past a seal that has taken a set.
- A steady wet patch behind the cabinet that does not dry — Supply-line or drain-pan territory. Unlike the others, this one continues when the compressor is off.
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers — The signature of a blocked defrost drain. The meltwater backs up at the drain trough and finds the lowest point inside the liner instead.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also running warm — A leak alongside a warm cabinet usually means the evaporator has iced over and is shedding, which is a cooling fault first.
Ranked causes on the RBM platform
- Defrost drain blocked by ice or debris — First on this family and first by a margin that makes the rest of the list almost academic. The drain runs from the evaporator trough to a pan at the back, its inlet is the coldest point on the route, and it closes with a plug of ice that grows back after every thaw unless the trough is cleared properly.
- Drain pan cracked, displaced or overflowing — Second. The pan sits over the compressor and relies on that heat to evaporate what the drain delivers.
- Door seal deformed or a door not closing square — Third. Warm humid air reaching a cold liner condenses, and the condensate runs.
- Ice maker or dispenser fill line, valve or fitting — Fourth by frequency and first by urgency. A supply leak does not stop when the appliance does, and it is the only cause on this list that can damage the floor faster than it damages the appliance.
What to check first, second, third
- 1. Find where the water actually starts, not where it ends — Dry everything, lay paper towel at the front edge and behind the cabinet, and wait a day.
- 2. Check the defrost drain trough at the back of the freezer floor — Clear ice with warm water poured slowly, never with a metal probe.
- 3. Pull the unit out and look at the drain pan — It should be damp, not full, and it should be seated.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water and electricity are the hazard here rather than the appliance itself: dry the floor before you kneel on it, and if water has reached a receptacle or an extension lead, switch the circuit off at the panel before touching anything.

Where the owner side ends
On the RBM cabinet the line falls at the evaporator cover. Pouring warm water down a drain trough, reseating a drain pan and testing a door seal with a sheet of paper are all owner work and between them close most of these calls. Anything behind the evaporator cover, any supply fitting you are not confident re-making, and any leak that persists with the power off should go to a technician — and shut the water off at the line before you make that call rather than after.
