The short answer
An ice maker on the Bertazzoni HQ refrigerator that has stopped producing is usually a water-supply or fill fault rather than a failed module. On this family the inlet valve, the fill tube and the water line reaching the cabinet account for most of it, and the mould heater and module sit behind them in the order.
What an owner actually sees
- Cubes are hollow, undersized or fused into a slab — The fill is arriving but not completing, which is a restriction rather than an absence.
- You hear the fill valve buzz but no water reaches the mould — The control is calling correctly and the water is not following. That narrows it to the valve, the line pressure or a frozen fill tube.
- Ice tastes or smells wrong even though production is normal — That is a filter, a line or a storage question rather than a production fault, and it is worth separating from the rest before you diagnose further.
- NEAR MISS — the freezer itself is not holding temperature — Slow or cloudy production with a freezer that feels soft is a cooling fault wearing an ice-maker costume.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Water not reaching the cabinet at all — First on this family, and first by a wide margin. A shut-off left part-closed, a line crushed when the cabinet was pushed back, or a filter well past its service life all stop production completely and all look exactly like a dead ice maker from the front.
- Fill tube frozen closed — Second. When the flap seal at the mould wears, freezer air tracks up the fill tube and the next fill freezes short of the mould.
- Inlet valve failed electrically or clogged on the screen — Third. A valve that buzzes and passes nothing has either lost its solenoid or silted its inlet screen.
- Ice maker module, thermostat or mould heater — Fourth. The module ends a harvest by warming the mould and turning the ejector; a failed heater welds the cubes in place and a failed motor never turns them out.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Confirm water is arriving at the cabinet — Check the shut-off is fully open and the line behind the unit is not crushed.
- 2. Look up the fill tube for ice — A tube frozen at the mould end is visible and is cleared with warm water, never with anything sharp.
- 3. Run a forced harvest and listen for the fill — A buzz with no water separates the valve from everything upstream of it.
Read this before touching the appliance
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply off before you disturb any fitting on the line, and clear a frozen fill tube with warm water rather than a screwdriver or a heat gun — the tube is thin-walled and the flap it feeds is thinner.

Owner fix or service call
The line on the HQ cabinet is the inlet valve. Opening a shut-off, replacing a filter, straightening a line and thawing a fill tube are owner work and resolve most of these calls. Testing a solenoid, forcing a harvest through the service mode, and deciding between a module and a board are technician work.
