- NEAR MISS — the machine is silent and nothing is cold at all — No compressor sound, no fan, no light behaviour: that is a power, relay or control fault rather than the cooling path, and it is a different page from this one.
Causes, most likely first on the AUF line
- Airflow blocked by frost on the evaporator — Ranked first on the AUF line, because defrost systems stall long before they fail outright, so ice builds quietly over weeks while the cabinet gives up a degree at a time, and by the time an owner notices the warmth the frost sheet is already the whole story. - Clear the rear air outlets and rearrange the contents — Pull food back from the vents at the rear of both compartments and re-seat the drawers.
- Look at the freezer rear cover for frost at its edges — Ice creeping out around the cover is the visible end of a coil that has iced over.
- Pull the machine out and look at the condenser — Dust on the coil and a condenser fan that is not turning are both visible from the back or through the lower grille, and both are owner-serviceable with the machine unplugged.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant work is licensed work. If tubing is cut, kinked or weeping oil, stop: oil outside the tubing means the system is open, and running the compressor after that point does further damage every hour.

When to call a technician
Call once the fan runs, the coil is clear, the seals hold and the cabinet is still warm, because what is left is the defrost circuit or the sealed system and both need a meter in the first case and a licence in the second. A cabinet that is a few degrees warm can wait a day if the food is moved; one that is at room temperature cannot, and neither can a freezer full of food.
