Causes, most likely first on this roster
- Shut-off arm or bin sensor reading full — First because it fails silently and completely. There is no code, no noise and no change on the display, so the appliance looks exactly as it does when it is working.
- Freezer compartment running too warm to make ice — Second-order symptom, first-order cause. If the cabinet has any other cooling complaint at all, fix that first, because the ice maker will not be repaired by replacing it.
- Household water supply, saddle valve or filter restriction — At this position because restriction degrades before it stops: cube size shrinks for weeks before production ends, which is the pattern that distinguishes it from a valve that has simply failed.
- Ice maker module, motor or thermostat failed — At the bottom because the only pattern that genuinely points here is a mould that fills correctly, freezes correctly and then never harvests, with temperature and supply both confirmed good.
- Body: The order here follows the water: supply, valve, fill, freeze, harvest. On the ABMW listings that path crosses the cabinet wall, so checking it in flow order is what stops you opening the freezer for a fault that lives under the sink.
What to check first
- Check when the fault started against anything else that changed — A filter change, a house move or a kitchen refit immediately before the fault points upstream of the cabinet.
- Look for a sheet of ice under the bin or in the fill tube — Ice below the bin means water is arriving when it should not, which points at the valve or the tube rather than the module.
- Body: The order below follows the water rather than the parts list. On the ABMW roster the supply crosses from outside the cabinet to inside it, so checking in flow order is what keeps you from opening a freezer for a fault that lives under the sink.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the unit before anything comes out - unplug it or switch off its breaker - and shut the water off at the valve before touching a compression fitting. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A supply line that is under pressure when it is loosened will empty into the kitchen floor before you can stop it.

Where the owner line is
The line on the ABMW listings is the water fitting and the freezer liner. Bins, arms, thermometers, filters and shut-off valves are owner work; inlet valves and modules are not, and a cabinet that is also warming is a cooling job before it is an ice job.
