The family in two sentences
The AFU family is Amana’s grouping for eleven coded models, and a fault on one of them is usually a fault on the rest. Temperature is the class that dominates, and it drags the leak and the ice complaints along with it more often than not.
What goes wrong, and where it is covered
- Runs but will not hold temperature — Food spoiling at normal settings while the compressor runs more or less continuously. Covered on the cooling page.
- Water under the drawers or on the floor — Water after a defrost is inside the cabinet; a patch that never dries is a pressurised joint. Covered on the water-leak page.
- The ice maker has stopped filling the bucket — An empty bucket with everything else normal, or cubes coming out hollow and half formed. Covered on the ice-maker page.
- A noise the cabinet did not used to make — New noise with normal cooling, which points at fans and fasteners rather than at mechanism. Covered on the noise page.
Which class leads
- Cooling — Leads here. The class that produces the other three as symptoms.
- Water — Next. Usually a drain that has silted up rather than a joint that has failed.
- Ice — Next. Usually a supply or a harvest question, not a failed module.
- Noise — Least common. The cheapest class to resolve and the one most often not a fault at all.

Where the line falls
Anything reachable without a panel — coil, feet, drain, shutoff arm, filter — is owner work on these models. Call whenever a fault arrives with a hot smell or with oil near the compressor.
