What this usually is on these models
On QZW units the first question is not what is leaking but where the water begins. The drain path carries the whole of the defrost melt, so it is where a leak on this line almost always starts, and that single distinction settles most cases before a tool comes out.
What you observe
- Beads of water on the outside panels — The outer skin is cold enough to sweat in the room it stands in.
- Contents at the base sitting in water — Labels soften and packaging swells while everything higher up is dry.
- A wet gasket all along one edge — The seal line itself is beaded, which points at where the warm air is getting in.
- NEAR MISS - the cabinet is warm as well as wet — Water plus a cabinet that will not hold temperature is a cooling fault first; the water is a symptom of it and the cooling page covers it.
Ranked causes for these models
- A blocked condensate drain path — First here, and by a wide margin: everything the plate sheds has to leave through one small outlet.
- Contents damming the drain trough — Second on this line: a full cabinet is packed against the walls, and anything sitting in the trough or pressed to the cold plate stops the melt reaching the outlet. The water then finds the gap at the door.
- Warm air getting past the door or lid seal — Third: a seal fault produces water in proportion to how humid the room is, which is why it is reported as seasonal and dismissed in winter.
- A split drain hose or a failed seam — Last on the list, and the only one here that is not owner work: a failed seam leaks the same amount whatever you do to the drain, which is what separates it from everything above.
What to check first, second, third
- Clear and test the compartment drain — With the unit emptied, look for standing water in the trough before you touch anything. A trough that is wet while the plate is dry means the outlet, not the seal.
- Empty the cabinet and look at the channel — Take everything out and look along the floor channel for a bag, a wrapper or a container sitting in it. Then reload leaving the channel and the cold plate clear.
- Test the seal along its whole length — Run a hand round the closed door for a cool draught, then look at the gasket for a flattened section or a fold that has taken a set.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a wet floor makes any contact with the machinery end worse. Never run a lead across a damp floor while you work.

When to call a technician
The line is the panel. Everything you can reach with the compartment empty is owner work; anything that needs the back or the base off is not, because the machinery end holds both the electrics and the sealed system. A wet unit that trips protection is a call, not a check.
