Eleven parts guides, and two of them are about parts most people never think of. The blower wheel is the fan that pulls air through the drum, and it cracks on its hub rather than wearing out. The drum felt seal rides between the drum and the bulkhead, and when it flattens, air escapes and clothes catch in the gap. The rest are the lint screen, the heating element, the igniter, the moisture sensor, the motor, the door latch, the switch, the thermostat and the control board.
This hub rewards thinking about airflow as a path rather than a part. A dryer taking too long starts at the lint screen, continues into the vent, and only then reaches the blower wheel — a cracked wheel spins without moving much air, which reads like a heating fault. The felt seal is the other overlooked link, because a flattened one lets heated air bypass the load entirely. The igniter is the branch for a gas machine, the element for an electric one.
Both fuels place their own limit. On a gas dryer the burner and its supply are where a homeowner should hand over, since the hazard there is a leak rather than a bad repair. On an electric one the element circuit and terminal block run at 240 volts. Shared between them: a restricted vent is a fire risk, and it is what opens thermostats.
