LG Gas Stove Keeps Clicking — Causes & Fixes

What the clicking means#

That sound is the spark igniter firing when it shouldn't — after the burner is already lit, or with all burners off. It's generally not dangerous since the gas is lit or off, but the endless sparking wears the spark module and micro-switches and makes cooking harder.

LG's ignition and the usual causes#

LG gas ranges use electronic spark ignition with ceramic igniters, and the ProBake and InstaView models share one gas-delivery platform; the LRG and LSG series are the most common. Here's what sets off the clicking:

• Moisture on the igniter (most common). Liquid on the electrode from a spill or wet clean shorts it and triggers constant clicking. Blot the burner, remove the cap, and let it dry — a fan helps, and it usually clears within an hour or two.
• Food debris at the electrode. Grease and burnt-on food can conduct across the gap and fire the spark. Clean the electrode base with a dry cloth or an old toothbrush and clear anything bridging the gap.
• A stuck igniter switch. The knob's micro-switch starts the spark at the light position and can stick on from grease, wear, or a weak spring. Rapidly turning the knob between light and off can free it; otherwise it's replaced.
• A shorted spark module. The module powers every igniter, and an internal short makes it fire nonstop on one or all channels. If drying and cleaning don't help, the module behind the back panel or under the cooktop is the suspect.
• Damaged wiring. Frayed or heat-melted igniter wiring can short and spark. Check for wires against metal, melted insulation, or rodent damage.

Working through it#

Find the clicking burner first — with everything off, the sound is loudest there. Pull that cap and head, blot the moisture, and dry with a fan or cool hair dryer for at least half an hour. Wipe the ceramic electrode with a dry cloth or non-metallic brush. Then flick the knob between light and off 10 to 15 times to unstick the micro-switch. For instant quiet, unplug the range or cut the breaker — the burners still light with a lighter — and if the clicking returns once dry, plan on a new switch or module.
